Just another crazy day

Il primo maggio è diventato la festa degli automobilisti.
May Day has now become motorist’s day.

Una volta era dei lavoratori, ma oggi sono troppo pochi. 

Once upon a time it was known as workers day, but there are now too few of them.

Gli automobilisti in coda invece aumentano.
The number of drivers sitting in motorway queues, instead, has increased.

Ieri 5,5 milioni di auto si sono messe in moto.
Yesterday, some 5.5 million motorcars took to the road.

Sembra una barzelletta, ma non lo è.
It may seem like a joke, but it isn’t.

La fine del petrolio, la crisi mondiale e una disoccupazione reale che supera il 14% ci fanno il solletico.
The prospect of crude oil running out, the global crisis and rising unemployment, which now exceeds 14%, are making us itch.

Ottimo anche l’adeguamento, quasi sensazionale, di Asti-Cuneo, +9,30%.
Also excellent is the almost sensational increase of +9.30% announced by Asti-Cuneo.

I concessionari autostradali sono stati troppo buoni, quasi onesti.
The motorway concession holders have been to good to us of late, perhaps even bordering on honest.

Guadagnano miliardi di euro con un pedaggio applicato a autostrade già pagate dalle tasse degli italiani negli ultimi cinquant’anni.
They are raking in billions of Euro of toll fees on motorways already paid for by the Italian taxpayer’s money over the past fifty years.

E’ giusto così.
And rightly so too.

L’occasione fa l’uomo ladro e il concessionario dovrebbe tirarsi indietro?
Opportunity turns a man into a thief, so why should the concession holder be any different?

Proprio lui, così vicino ai partiti da permettersi il lusso di finanziarli alla luce del sole?
Especially they who are so closely linked to the political parties that they can afford the luxury of funding them quite openly?

Anche gli sfollati del terremoto devono contribuire, tutti sono uguali di fronte al pedaggio.
Even those left homeless by the earthquake must pay their share because everyone is equal before the toll.

Infatti sulla A24 e sulla A25 migliaia di abruzzesi che si recano a L’Aquila hanno ripreso da ieri a pagare il pedaggio sospeso a causa del sisma.
In fact, on the A24 and the A25 motorways, thousands of residents of Abruzzo going through to L’Aquila once again began paying toll fees yesterday, which had been suspended as a result of the quake.

Chissà se lo pagherano anche i torpedoni ministeriali in arrivo per il G8?

La benzina è verde, i sentieri sono selvaggi (avete mai visto la pubblicità di una macchina imbottigliata nel traffico?), nel sedile anteriore vicino al guidatore c’è sempre una ragazza da togliere il fiato (al posto della moglie).
Our fuel is green and our roads are wild (have you ever seen an advert showing a car stuck in the traffic?), in the front passenger seat there is always a girl so beautiful that she takes your breath away (instead of a wife).

I cieli sono azzurri e il paesaggio incontaminato.
The skies are blue and the landscape is uncontaminated.

Let’s face the catastrophe with optimism.
