Music against poverty contest: young Europeans speak out on fighting worldwide poverty!
Concorso “Musica contro la povertà”: spazio ai giovani europei nella lotta contro la povertà nel mondo

Today, the European Commission launches the European Music Contest calling young Europeans, between 15 and 25, to submit a song expressing support to the fight against poverty in the world.
La Commissione Europea ha indetto oggi il concorso “Musica contro la povertà”: i giovani europei dai 15 ai 25 anni sono invitati a concorrere con brani musicali dedicati alla lotta contro la povertà nel mondo.

Each participant will create an original song on the general issue of development, and notably on the eight Millennium Development Goals.
I partecipanti dovranno comporre un brano originale sul tema dello sviluppo e in particolare sugli otto obiettivi di sviluppo del Millennio.

The winners – selected through online voting and a jury of music professionals – will get a professional studio recording of their song and will have the opportunity to perform during the European Development Days in December 2010 in Brussels.
Ai vincitori, selezionati tramite il voto online e da una giuria di professionisti, sarà offerta la possibilità di incidere il proprio brano in un vero studio di registrazione e di esibirsi a Bruxelles in occasione degli European Development Days a dicembre 2010.

The music contest is part of the “I fight poverty campaign”, dedicated to raise awareness among teenagers on the EU’s action in the field of development cooperation.
Il concorso musicale rientra nel progetto “I fight poverty”, mirato a sensibilizzare i giovani sulle iniziative dell’Ue nel settore della cooperazione allo sviluppo.

“Music is a powerful tool to mobilise people from all age and all countries on the fight against poverty.
“La musica è un potente strumento in grado di mobilitare persone di ogni età e paese per lotta alla povertà.

Il concorso musicale esprime la volontà della Commissione di far partecipare le generazioni più giovani sensibilizzandole sull’importanza degli obiettivi di sviluppo del Millennio.

I’m looking forward to many contributions from rap, hip-hop to hard rock” said Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development.
Mi aspetto numerosi contributi dal rap all’hip-hop, all’hard rock” ha dichiarato Andris Piebalgs, Commissario europeo per lo Sviluppo.

Through networking sites and music festivals, youngsters from EU Member States between 15 and 25 are invited to submit, until 30 September, a song related to fighting poverty on the Internet.
Attraverso i festival musicali e i network della rete, i giovani europei dai 15 ai 25 anni potranno proporre via Internet, entro il 30 settembre, brani sul tema della lotta alla povertà.

Participants will also express their support for one of the eight Millennium Development Goals:
I partecipanti dovranno inoltre esprimere il proprio sostegno a favore di uno degli otto obiettivi di sviluppo del Millennio:

Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger;
eliminare la fame e la povertà estrema;

Achieve Universal Primary Education;
garantire l’istruzione primaria per tutti;

Promote Gender Equality;
promuovere le pari opportunità tra i sessi;

Reduce Child Mortality, Improve Maternal Health, Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases;
ridurre la mortalità infantile, migliorare la salute materna, combattere l’AIDS, la malaria e le altre malattie;

Ensure Environmental Sustainability;
garantire la sostenibilità ambientale;

Develop a Global Partnership for Development.
sviluppare un partenariato mondiale per lo sviluppo.

Voting will take place online until 31 October 2010.
I brani in concorso potranno essere votati online fino al 31 ottobre 2010.

There will be two winners, whose names will be unveiled in November:
I nomi dei due vincitori finali verranno resi noti a novembre:

one selected through online voting and another one by a professional jury.
un vincitore verrà eletto tramite il voto online mentre l’altro sarà selezionato da una giuria di professionisti.

Up for grabs are a professional studio recording of the songs and the opportunity to perform during the European Development Days which will take place in December 2010 in Brussels.
I vincitori potranno incidere il brano in uno studio di registrazione e esibirsi in occasione degli European Development Days che si terranno a dicembre 2010 a Bruxelles.

With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on world leaders to attend a summit in New York on 20-22 September 2010 to accelerate progress towards the Millennium Development Goals.
A soli cinque anni dal termine per il conseguimento degli obiettivi di sviluppo del Millennio, il Segretario generale dell’ONU Ban Ki-moon ha invitato i leader mondiali a partecipare al vertice di New York dal 20 al 22 settembre 2010 nell’intento di accelerare i progressi verso la realizzazione degli obiettivi di sviluppo del Millennio.
