Greetings & Closings in E-Mails

Sometimes you might want to add a greeting to your email, you know, the first thing that your reader is going to read.

“Good afternoon everyone, from the desk of Jim Smith”, you know, whatever you want to put.

A greeting makes the email seem a little bit more personal and… so that might be something that you want to consider, as long as it’s still within… you know… not… not too informal.

>>> You don’t want in business writing to send an email, “hey everybody!”. That’s too informal but greetings are good, rather than just starting off with your message.

Same thing goes for closings. Closings are very good, don’t just let your message end. You want to add in a nice closing, “thank you for your time“, “I appreciate your hard work“, “best of luck on this project“.

Greetings and closings are real important if you want to keep a personal feel about the message rather than impersonal, “here’s the information, just get the job done“.

best of luck on this project: buona fortuna per il vostro progetto (lett. il meglio della fortuna su questo progetto)
real: davvero ( real è usato come se fosse really, un uso americano molto frequente)
keep a personal feel: mantenere un tono personale
rather than: anziché
here’s the information: questi sono i dati (lett. ecco le informazioni)
just get the job done: forza a finire il lavoro! (lett. solo fate che il lavoro sia svolto: modo di dire che in inglese suona molto brusco)
