Former deputy speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Jane Morrice, has been elected vice-president of a Brussels-based organisation that advises EU lawmakers. Known as the European Economic and Social Committee, the EESC is made up of 344 members from the 27 EU member countries.

L'ex vicepresidente dell'Assemblea dell'Irlanda del Nord, Jane Morrice, è stata eletta vicepresidente del Comitato economico e sociale europeo (CESE), organo con sede a Bruxelles, composto di 344 membri provenienti dai 27 Stati membri dell'UE, che svolge funzioni consultive nei confronti del legislatore europeo.

A journalist who worked for BBC Belfast and European Report in Brussels, Jane Morrice will be responsible for communication during her two and a half year term.

No stranger to European affairs, Jane Morrice was head of the European Commission Office in Northern Ireland in the early 90s and was involved in the EU task force that helped set up the first EU Peace Programme.
