The registered letter that kills

Da qualche anno è un fiorire di raccomandate.
In the last few years, there has been a flurry of registered mail.

Una volta si correva in posta per ritirarle.
Once upon a time you ran to the Post Office to pick it up.

Erano una preoccupazione. Adesso non ci si fa più caso. Sono solo una rottura di balle.
It was a worry. Now you hardly notice them. They are simply just annoyances.

La svolta è avvenuta con il passaggio dei servizi pubblici ai privati e dei pagamenti alle società di riscossione.
The turning point came with the transfer of public services to commercial companies and payments to agencies charged with the task of receiving payments.

Se non paghi una gabella ti sequestrano l’auto, la casa e i dischi di Little Tony.

Andrea mi scrive da Ciampino e allega una raccomandata che gli ha inviato la municipalizzata ASP CIAMPINO.
Andrea has written to me from Ciampino and he has attached a registered letter that was sent to him by the municipal company ASP CIAMPINO.

Costo della raccomandata tre euro e cinquanta.

Pagamento dovuto 0,02 centesimi.
Payment due: 0.02 euro.

Indovinate chi paga il costo delle raccomandate, il tempo speso per la compliazione della lettera, la protocollazione, la registrazione, l’invio?
Guess who pays the cost of the registered letter, the time spent on writing it, the registration, the sending?

Lo sapete già: tutti i clienti delle municipalizzate o di qualunque altro ente pubblico che invi lettere minatorie.
You know already: all the clients of the municipal companies or of any other public body that sends out threatening letters.

Chi paga le tasse in Italia è super controllato.
Anyone who pays taxes in Italy is super-controlled.

Se smettesse di pagarle anche lui, infatti, il sistema crollerebbe.
If even one were to stop paying, in fact, the system would collapse.

Le verifiche sono così severe e puntigliose che trovano dettagli ignorati da qualunque commercialista.
The checks are so severe and detailed that they can find details that have been ignored by any qualified accountant.

Non è raro che chi crede di aver pagato TUTTE le tasse riceva una raccomandata dell’Agenzia delle Entrate e terrorizzato la apra. Piano piano, come quando si guardano le carte da poker.
It’s not unusual for someone who believes that they have paid ALL their taxes to receive a registered letter from the tax collection agency and they open it with terror, slowly, slowly like you do when you are looking at your hand in a game of poker.

Tutta una vita gli passa davanti.
Their whole life passes in front of their eyes.

Non sarà il rogito della nonna di 25 anni prima o la fattura pagata in ritardo di un mese all’elettricista che lo ha rovinato per sempre?
Will it be the notary’s document relating to the grand-mother 25 years ago or the invoice paid a month late to the electrician who ruined them for ever?

Quando legge l’importo di 18,50 euro da pagare sulla dichiarazione di tre anni prima per una serie di motivi che non comprenderà mai ( potrebbe aiutarlo il suo commercialista per un onorario di 250 euro, ma non è economico) si precipita a pagare.

Il vicino gli ha fatto causa?
Has the next door neighbour taken out a court action?

L’azienda lo ha licenziato?
Has the company given them the sack?

L’ex moglie lo cita in tribunale?
The former wife has called them to the Tribunal?

Nulla di tutto questo, è un parcheggio in sosta vietata, se non lo paghera ENTRO E NON OLTRE gli sequestreranno l’auto.
None of this stuff. It’s a parking offence to be paid BY AND NOT AFTER… Otherwise they will confiscate the car.

Ma quel giorno non ha usato l’auto, non era in quella via, in quella città.
But on that day they didn’t use the car, they weren’t in that street, in that city.

La sanzione è di 52,50.
The fine is 52.50.

Meglio pagare che ricorrere.
Better pay up rather than discuss it.

Se cambiate residenza non lasciate tracce.
If you change your address don’t leave a trace.

Non fate sapere a nessuno dove vi rifugiate.
Don’t let anyone know where you are taking refuge.
