There’s something rotten in Brussel

L’euro è il dito, ma la UE è la luna, la sua parte nascosta, di cui si sa poco o nulla.
The euro is the finger, but the EU is the moon, its hidden part, of which we know little or nothing.

L’italiano è più a conoscenza dei dibattiti del Senato americano che delle decisioni prese a Bruxelles.
An Italian knows more about the debates in the American Senate than the decisions taken in Brussels.

Forse perché non c’è molto da dire di un luogo che assomiglia a un club Med, a un dolce esilio dei trombati alle elezioni nazionali come Mastella.
Perhaps because there’s not much to be said about a place that seems more like a Club Med resort a gentle place of exile for those like Mastella, who failed in national elections.

L’annullamento della politica europea, sostituita nei fatti da un’unione bancaria europea, non è quello che volevano i padri fondatori Adenauer, De Gasperi, Monnet e Schuman.
The annulment of European politics, replaced in fact by a European banking union, is not what was envisaged by the founding fathers Adenauer, De Gasperi, Monnet and Schuman.

I partiti italiani usano la UE come un alibi, alla bisogna, quando serve, come per la Tav in Val di Susa, che in realtà non vuole più nessuno in Europa, oppure la ignorano completamente, come avviene per il falso in bilancio, la legge anti corruzione (che ci viene chiesta dal 1999), il conflitto di interessi, l’elezione di condannati in Parlamento e per tutte le immani porcate per le quali siamo “calpesti e derisi”.
When needed, parties in Italy use the EU as an alibi, as for The TAV in the Val di Susa, that in fact no one in Europe wants any more, or they ignore the EU completely, as happens for false accounting, the anti corruption law (that we have been asked to create since 1999), conflict of interests, the election of people with criminal convictions to Parliament and for all the disgusting rubbish for which we are “downtrodden and derided”.

Il potere della UE è sanzionatorio: se non applichi le sue direttive paghi la multa.
The power of the EU is to apply sanctions: if you don’t put the directives into effect, you pay the fine.

Se, ad esempio, non si ottempera alle direttive in materia di ambiente, il cittadino italiano (incolpevole) paga multe salatissime.
If, for example, directives relating to the environment are not put into effect, the (blameless) Italian citizen pays a really hefty fine.

L’Italia è sanzionata ogni anno per centinaia di milioni di euro per truffe ai danni della UE.
Italy is made to pay fines every year amounting to hundreds of millions of euro because of fraud to the detriment of the EU.

Multare il cittadino incolpevole (le tasse alla fine le paga lui) a causa dell’inefficienza e della corruzione della politica è come bastonare un asino sfinito dalla mola.
Fining the blameless citizen (in the end, he’s the one paying the taxes) because of the inefficiencies and corruption of the political class is like beating an exhausted donkey at the grindstone.

Il “Dio lo vuole” delle Crociate è stato sostituito dai partiti con “L’Europa lo vuole”, anche quando quest’ultima non vuole proprio nulla, come nel caso degli inceneritori nati come i funghi (specie amanita falloide) in Italia, ribattezzati “termovalorizzatori” dai pdimenoellini, che alla forma ci tengono.
The slogan “God wishes it” of the Crusades, has been substituted by the parties with “Europe wishes it”, even when Europe wants nothing at all, as is the case with the incinerators that have sprung up like mushrooms (species:amanita phalloides) in Italy, and renamed “thermovalorizors” by the PDminusL-folk who like to pay attention to appearances.

I soldi dell’Europa, mitici e inesistenti.
European money is a myth and non-existent.

I fondi europei, grande presa per i fondelli.
European funding is a great way of taking us for a ride.

Ogni anno destiniamo alla UE circa 12 miliardi di euro, ne ritornano, quando va bene, nove che, in prevalenza, finiscono alle Regioni dove le mafie sono più presenti: Campania, Calabria e Sicilia.
Each year we send off to the EU about 12 billion euro, and if all goes well we get back 9 billion that mainly goes to the regions where the mafia have the greatest presence: Campania, Calabria and Sicily.

I tre miliardi di differenza vanno altrove.
The difference is 3 billion and that goes elsewhere.

E’ l’Italia a finanziare la UE, non il contrario.
It’s Italy that finances the EU, not the other way round.

E ora, di fronte al colpo di Stato del cambiamento della legge elettorale in corsa e al tetto del 42,5% per il premio di maggioranza per impedire a tavolino la possibile vittoria del M5S e replicare il Monti bis, la UE tace.
And now, in the face of the coup d’état involving the current change to the electoral law and to the ceiling of 42.5% for the majority premium aimed to prevent the possible victory of the M5S and to bring about a Monti bis, the EU is staying silent.

Chissà forse ci farà una multa per divieto di sosta a Montecitorio.

La Commissione Europea per la Democrazia attraverso il Diritto ha sancito nel 2003 che “gli elementi fondamentali del diritto elettorale, e in particolare del sistema elettorale, la composizione delle commissioni elettorali e la suddivisione delle circoscrizioni non devono poter essere modificati nell’anno che precede l’elezione, o dovrebbero essere legittimati a livello costituzionale o ad un livello superiore a quello della legge ordinaria”.
In 2003, the Venice Commission declared that “the fundamental elements of electoral law, especially those covering the electoral system per se, the composition of electoral commissions and the drawing of constituency boundaries must not be changed within one year of elections, or the rules should be legitimised at a Constitutional level or in a text higher in status than ordinary law “.
