Un piccolo gruppo di parlamentari non vuole restituire la parte rimanente delle spese non sostenute.
A small group of parliamentarians doesn’t want to give back what’s left of the “expense account” that hasn’t actually been spent.

In the Code of Conduct that candidates signed up to, the financial conditions are clear:

5.000 euro lordi e le spese sostenute a piè di lista con la rendicontazione.
5,000 euro gross plus the expenses actually spent with the receipts to document each item.

Il resto andava restituito con modalità da definire da parte dei gruppi parlamentari: onlus, fondi di microcredito alle imprese, ecc.
The rest was to be given back in a way to be decided by the parliamentary groups: charities, microcredit funds for small firms, etc.

I parlamentari percepiscono una diaria e alcuni vorrebbero trattenere la differenza tra questa e le spese.
Parliamentarians receive a daily amount and some of them want to keep the difference between this and what they spend.

Ieri ho parlato con loro alla Camera anche di questo.
Yesterday I spoke to them about this and other stuff in the Lower House.

Alcuni, pochi, non erano convinti.
Some, just a few, were not convinced.

Per un MoVimento che ha rinunciato a 42 milioni di euro di finanziamenti elettorali, (né Capitan Findus Letta, né Al Tappone ci hanno minimamente pensato, in cambio hanno preso per il culo gli italiani con una raffica di dichiarazioni) che si è decurtato lo stipendio (nessun altro gruppo parlamentare lo ha fatto) e ogni mese destinerà circa 350.000 euro risparmiati a una onlus o a un fondo di solidarietà.
For a Movement that has renounced 42 million euro in electoral financing (neither Captain Findus Letta, nor Al Tappone had even thought of this, in exchange they have taken the Italian people for a ride with a an array of declarations) and has cut their own salaries (no other parliamentary group has done that) and each month is handing over about 350,000 euro that has been saved to a charity or a solidarity fund.

Una differenza di poche migliaia di euro trattenute da qualche parlamentare potrebbe sembrare un peccato veniale, qualcosa su cui sorvolare.
A difference of a few thousand euro kept back by some parliamentarians could seem a tiny little sin, even something to be glossed over.

Ma non lo è, per rispetto verso gli attivisti e gli elettori.
But it’s not, when you think of the respect due to the activists and the voters.

Si discute infatti di un principio, l’aderenza a patti liberamente sottoscritti e l’adesione all’etica del MoVimento.
In fact it’s a matter of principle, of sticking to a pact that you have freely signed up to and sticking to the ethics of the MoVement.

Nessuno ci farà sconti.
No one will make any allowances for us.

Il Paese ci osserva.
The country is watching us.

Ci premierà per la nostra coerenza o ci punirà per i nostri errori.
They will reward us for our coherence and they will punish us for our errors.

L’Italia la cambieremo soltanto attraverso l’esempio.
We will change Italy only by setting an example.

Non possiamo chiedere ad altri dei sacrifici se non li facciamo noi stessi.
We can’t ask others to make sacrifices if we don’t do that ourselves.

Non ci perdoneranno nulla, non possiamo perdonarci nulla.
They will forgive us nothing. We cannot forgive ourselves anything.

E’ nella nostra natura.
It’s in our nature.

It’s our strength.

Ho incontrato nei giorni scorsi una signora, due figli piccoli, senza il marito.
In the last few days, I met a lady who has two young children and no husband.

Guadagna 500 euro al mese facendo le pulizie.

Con orgoglio, mi ha detto che lei ce la fa, anche se conta i 10 centesimi.
She told me with pride that she manages to make ends meet even though she has to watch every 10 cents.

Ho pensato a lei, ieri, in quell’aula di stucchi e arazzi a Montecitorio.
I thought of her, yesterday, when I was in the Chamber at Montecitorio with all the stuccowork and tapestries.
