“Le rivoluzioni nelle comunicazioni sono sempre state al centro dei cambiamenti delle organizzazioni sociali.
“Revolutions in communication have always been at the centre of change in social organisations.

Internet non fa eccezione, con l’accesso globale dei cittadini alle informazioni.
The internet, that offers people global access to information, is no exception.

Ma Internet non è solo un supermedia destinato a assorbire tutti gli altri, ma soprattutto è un processo di
trasformazione della società.
But the internet is not just a super-media destined to absorb all the others, but above all it offers a process to transform society.

Oggi è in corso un tipping point dovuto a Internet, un salto di livello, per la politica.
Today we have reached a tipping point thanks to the internet, a massive step change, for the world of politics.

>>> Come successe nel 1960, con il primo confronto tra John Kennedy e Richard Nixon, in televisione, durante le elezioni presidenziali, quando la politica comprese che da quel momento le campagne elettorali sarebbero state vinte, o perse, in televisione.
As happened during the presidential elections in 1960, with the first TV debate between John Kennedy and Richard Nixon, when the world of politics understood that from that moment onwards, election campaigns would be won or lost on TV.

Questo intervento cercherà di dare indicazioni per capire come e perché Internet sta influenzando la politica e la cambierà nel prossimo futuro.
While I’m talking here today, I’ll try to give some information to explain how and why the Internet is influencing the world of politics and how it will change it in the near future.

Proprietà di Internet
Properties of the internet

Internet ha delle proprietà fisse che possono influenzare diversi aspetti della nostra società, in questo caso la politica.
The internet has certain properties that can influence different aspects of our society, and in this case, the world of politics.

Ho scelto il Partenone come figura per il suo significato simbolico, riferito a Pericle e alla democrazia ateniese, che spesso è associata alla democrazia diretta.
I’ve chosen the Parthenon as an image with a symbolic meaning in relation to Pericles and Athenian democracy that is often associated with direct democracy.

Partendo dalle colonne del Partenone, le proprietà di Internet:
Let’s start with the columns of the Parthenon to look at the properties of the internet:

– Trasparenza, intesa come trasparenza delle istituzioni, politica, economia;
– Transparency, taken to be the transparency of the institutions, the worlds of politics and economics;

–  Disintermediazione, eliminazione di qualunque struttura intermedia che non abbia alcun valore aggiunto, in particolare nell’ambito della burocrazia;
– Disintermediation, elimination of any intermediary structure that has no added value, with particular reference to bureaucracy;

– Credibilità, la credibilità in Rete diventa un valore assoluto, economico e politico.
– Credibility, on the internet, credibility takes on an absolute, economic and political value.

Chi non ha credibilità non può usufruire della Rete, ma anzi ne ha un effetto contrario e negativo;
Anyone lacking credibility cannot make use of the internet, and in fact it produces a negative and opposite effect for them;

– Interazione, si passa, da “one to many” a “many to many”, da uno a molti a molti a molti, più persone si rivolgono a molte altre persone;
– Interaction, this goes from “one to many” to “many to many”, a number of people communicate with a lot of other people;

– Aggregazione, la creazione continua di comunità su obiettivi e interessi comuni, anche transnazionali, non soltanto locali;
– Aggregation, the continual creation of communities with common interests and objectives at a transnational level, not just local;

– La trasformazione dei processi e delle organizzazioni, che da piramidali si trasformano in organizzazioni a stella, con molteplici interconnessioni che possono aumentare nel tempo;
– The transformation of processes and organizations, that are being transformed from pyramid structures to star-shaped organizations, with multiple interconnections that can increase over time;

– L’accesso all’informazione, che diventa globale, fruibile per tutti coloro che accedono alla Rete, e diventa bidirezionale, quindi chiunque può inserire informazione e chiunque può fruirne.
– Access to information, that will become global, usable by everyone with access to the internet, and it’ll become bidirectional, so that anyone can enter information and anyone can use it.

Trends

Passiamo ora ai trends più importanti.
Let’s now consider the most important trends.

Si sta affermando, con fenomeni un po’ in tutto il mondo, la democrazia diretta, che si contrappone alla democrazia rappresentativa.
Direct democracy is taking root, in different ways, in all parts of the world. This is in contrast to representative democracy.

I cittadini attraverso la democrazia diretta partecipano direttamente alle iniziative politiche invece di votare dei rappresentanti che prendono le decisioni al loro posto.
With direct democracy, citizens are having direct participation in political initiatives instead of voting for representatives that take decisions for them.

Il secondo trend è la conoscenza diffusa dei temi politici e sociali, e il conseguente aumento della consapevolezza dei cittadini, che possono intervenire sulle decisioni che vengono a oggi prese sulla loro testa.
The second trend is the widespread knowledge about political and social topics and the increase in citizen awareness. They can thus take action in relation to decisions that, up until now, have been taken above their heads.

La centralità del cittadino, quindi la nascita di comunità virtuali, di gruppi di pressione politica, con capacità di spostamento di flussi elettorali anche nel breve termine.
The centrality of the citizen, giving rise to the creation of virtual communities, of political pressure groups, and the ability to shift voting patterns in a short time.

L’importanza delle comunità, che continuano a aumentare, sarà accentuata a livello locale, dove la attuazione delle politiche del governo è più visibile.
The importance of community, that is continually increasing. This will be accentuated at a local level where the implementation of government policies is more visible.

Questo avrà ricadute anche politiche a livello nazionale.
This will also have a knock-on effect at a national level.

Ricollegandomi alla prima apparizione di Richard Nixon e John Kennedy in televisione, allora si disse:
Going back to the first time Richard Nixon and John Kennedy appeared on television, people said:

“mostratemi un politico che non capisce la televisione e vi mostrerò un perdente”, oggi vale la stessa cosa:
“show me a politician that doesn’t understand television and I’ll show you a loser”, today the same is true:

“mostratemi un politico che non capisce Internet e vi mostrerò un perdente”.
“show me a politician that doesn’t understand the Internet and I’ll show you a loser”.
