Versilia’s killer incinerator“

“La Versilia è sotto shock per i risultati di un’inchiesta dell’Asl di Viareggio che pone sotto accusa l’inceneritore di Falascaia sito tra Pietrasanta e Camaiore, che avrebbe procurato migliaia di morti.
Versilia is in a state of shock after the publication of an investigation carried out by the Viareggio health authorities indicating the Falascaia incinerator (located between Pietrasanta and Camaiore), as the cause of thousands of deaths.

In questi decenni vari studi internazionali hanno dimostrato la correlazione positiva tra incenerimento dei rifiuti e aumento di patologie tumorali.
In the last few decades, various international research projects have shown that there’s a positive correlation between the incineration of waste products and an increase in cancer.

Tuttavia, l’indagine dell’Asl di Viareggio, è particolarmente significativa perché la Versilia, pur non essendo un’area industriale, ha il tasso di tumori più elevato della Toscana.
However, the Viareggio investigation, is particularly relevant because although Versilia is not an industrial area, it has the highest cancer rate in Tuscany.

L’indagine mira a chiarire il collegamento tra le diossine dell’inceneritore emesse dal 1974 al 1988 e i quasi 3000 ricoveri di pazienti affetti da tumore residenti a Pietrasanta e Camaiore.
The research project tried to identify the connection between dioxins produced between 1974 and 1988 and the nearly 3000 patients suffering from cancer and living in Pietrasanta and Camaiore.

Ma l’inchiesta dell’Asl si estende anche all’arco temporale che va dal 2004 al 2010 relativa al nuovo inceneritore che ha smesso di funzionare proprio nel 2010 dopo che la procura di Lucca ha accertato che la multinazionale francese Tev Veolia falsificava i dati di emissione di anidride carbonica.
But research also covered the period from 2004 to 2010 while the new incinerator was in operation. It was closed in 2010 after the judicial authorities in Lucca discovered that the French multinational Tev Veolia had falsified the data relating to emissions of carbon dioxide.

In questa seconda indagine l’Asl sta verificando se ci sono legami tra eventuali problemi nelle gravidanze e le nanoparticelle emesse dal camino dell’inceneritore.
In this second research project the health authorities are investigating connections between problems relating to pregnancies and the nanoparticles emitted by the incinerator.

La realtà è che gli inceneritori sono la risposta funzionale partorita da questo modello economico della crescita infinita in un Pianeta finito.
Incinerators are the functional response created by the economic model of infinite growth in a finite planet.

La loro costruzione vuol significare:
Constructing them is like saying:

non ti preoccupare consuma tanto noi poi bruciamo tutto dimenticando che in natura tutto si crea, tutto si trasforma nulla si distrugge.
don’t worry, you consume and we will burn everything. But this is forgetting that in nature everything is created and everything is transformed, but nothing is destroyed.

In altre parole questi mega mostri trasformano i nostri rifiuti (che in realtà sono una miniera) in miliardi di nano particelle che nessun filtro è in grado di fermare.
In other words these mega monsters are transforming our rubbish (that in fact are a gold mine) into billions of nanoparticles that cannot be filtered out by any filter.

A partire dal 1992 agli italiani sono stati fatti pagare ben 40 miliardi di euro con i cosiddetti cip 6 (il 7% sulla bolletta dell’Enel) che invece di andare alle energie rinnovabili sono stati donati ai costruttori di inceneritori.
Since 1992 Italians have been obliged to pay 40 billion euro with the so called “cip 6” (an extra 7% on the electricity bill). This is money that should have been used to develop renewable energy but instead has gone to the companies constructing incinerators.

In altre parole al contribuente è stato fatto pagare di tasca propria l’aumento delle probabilità di ammalarsi di tumore.
In other words, tax payers have been obliged to pay money to increase the probability of getting cancer.

Questo grazie a politici compiacenti che invece di tutelare i propri elettori hanno fatto gli interessi dei loro veri datori di lavoro che sono le multinazionali come la Veolia.
This is thanks to obliging politicians who have acted in the interests of the various multinational work providers like Veolia rather than acting to protect those whom they represent.

L’obiettivo è Rifiuti Zero ma questo è un risultato che si può realizzare sovvertendo la logica dell’attuale modello di produzione neoliberista che, come ben sintetizzò Tiziano Terzani, ha come scopo farci lavorare a ritmi spaventosi per produrre sempre più oggetti per lo più inutili per altri che lavorano a ritmi spaventosi per poterli comprare.” Gianluca Ferrara
