Chi ci salverà dal crollo dell’euro?
Who will save us from the collapse of the euro?

Sembra di assistere alla fine dell’Impero Romano, nel 476 dc.
It seems like witnessing the end of the Roman empire in 476 AD.

Allora si dissolse una costruzione politica, oggi una economica.
At that time there was the dissolution of a political construction, today it’s an economic one.

Non sono state previste delle regole per uscire dall’euro.
No rules were laid down for exiting the euro.

Se è difficile entrare, è impossibile uscire.
If it’s difficult to enter, it’s impossible to exit.

Più o meno come nelle associazioni criminali.
More or less like criminal organisations.

L’euro vale sempre meno nei confronti delle altre valute mondiali come il dollaro e lo yen.
The euro is worth less and less compared to other world currencies like the dollar and the yen.

La sua crisi deriva dalla fine dell’era del debito.
Its crisis is derived from the end of the debt era.

I Paesi europei, chi più chi meno, hanno finanziato la loro crescita con la vendita di titoli pubblici.
The European countries, some to a greater or lesser extent, have financed their growth with the sale of public bonds.

In gran parte se li sono scambiati tra loro come le figurine.
To a great extent they swapped them among themselves like cigarette cards.

Io ti cedo il mio debito e tu mi cedi il tuo, l’assurdo elevato a scienza economica.
I’ll hand you my debt and you give me yours, the “absurd” elevated to economic science.

Per venderli è necessario aumentare l’interesse e quindi creare nuovo debito in una corsa senza fine.
To sell it it’s necessary to increase the interest and thus to create new debt in a never ending race.

Il valore dell’euro è garantito dalla tenuta della Germania che però ha un rapporto Pil/debito dell’82%.
The value of the euro is guaranteed by the performance of Germany that however has a GDP/debt ratio of 82%.

E’ fuori dal tetto massimo europeo del 60% e le sue banche sono tra le meno solide in Europa.
It’s beyond the maximum European threshold of 60% and its banks are among the least solid in Europe.

La Germania non può accollarsi il debito europeo, deve prima pensare a sé stessa.
Germany cannot shoulder the European debt. First it has to think about itself.

La salvezza per l’Europa dovrebbero essere i cosiddetti eurobond, in sostanza il debito di tutti i Paesi messo a fattor comune e messo sul mercato.
The salvation for Europe should be the so-called Eurobonds, basically the debt of all the countries put in a common pot and issued to the market.

Gli Stati più virtuosi, come Germania e OIanda, dovrebbero pagare anche per i Pigs.
The more virtuous states, like Germany and Holland, should also pay for the PIGS.

Un po’ come in Italia succede da sempre a chi paga le tasse per gli evasori.
A bit like in Italy where it’s always the ones who pay the taxes that pay for the tax dodgers.

Il debito pubblico italiano è espresso in euro e deve essere ripagato in euro.
The Italian public debt is expressed in euro and it has to be repaid in euro.

Noi non possiamo svalutare l’euro e, anche se la nostra economia vale meno, i titoli mantengono il valore iniziale.
We cannot devalue the euro and even though our economy is worth less, the bonds keep their initial value.

E’ un cappio al collo che si stringe un centimetro alla volta, il boia è lo spread.
It’s a noose round our neck that gets tighter and tighter a centimetre at a time; the hangman is the “spread”.

Se i nostri titoli avessero un valore in lire, la svalutazione della nostra moneta si rifletterebbe in modo automatico.
If our bonds were to have a value in lira, the devaluation of our currency would be reflected automatically.

Il problema non si porrebbe.
The problem would not need to be put forward.

E’ stato demoniaco e certamente tafazziano legare il valore dei NOSTRI titoli pubblici al valore dell’euro sul quale non abbiamo alcun controllo e che prescinde dalla nostra economia reale.
It was demoniacal and certainly Tafazzi-style to tie the value of OUR public bonds to the value of the euro over which we have no control whatsoever and that has nothing to do with our real economy.

Gli eurobond dovrebbero ovviare a questa mostruosità, ma è improbabile che i tedeschi metteranno mano al portafoglio per salvare greci e italiani.
The Eurobonds should obviate this monstrosity but it is improbable that the Germans will put their hands in their pockets to save the Greeks and the Italians.

Non so dove ci condurrà questo minuetto franco/tedesco con due ballerini, la Merkel e Sarkozy, sempre fuori tempo.
I don’t know where this French/German minuet is leading. It’s conducted by two ballet dancers: Merkel and Sarkozy, always out of time.

L’impressione è che ci attenda un “rompete le righe”.
The impression is that we are waiting for an order to “break ranks”.

E’ necessario preparare, fosse solo come alternativa probabile, un piano B per uscire dall’euro. Non arrivarci per necessità.
Preparation is necessary, even just as a probable alternative, a plan B for leaving the euro. Let’s not get there out of necessity.
