Il 22 settembre ci sarà un incontro pubblico a Parma a cui parteciperò.
On 22 September there’s a public meeting in Parma and I’m going to be present.
Avrà inizio alle 14 e terminerà alle 18 in piazza della Pace.
It’s in piazza della Pace and it’ll start at 2:00 pm and finish at 6:00 pm.
Il tema di cui si tratterà è “Dies Iren – La fine degli inceneritori”.
The topic to be discussed is “Dies Iren -the end of the incinerators”.
Non c’è una sola buona ragione per costruirli: danneggiano la salute, l’ambiente, fanno aumentare i costi dello smaltimento dei rifiuti scaricati poi sulla collettività.
There is not one single reason to build them: they damage health and the environment, they increase the costs of disposing of waste and the costs are then offloaded onto the people.
All’incontro parteciperanno medici, economisti, ambientalisti e specialisti della gestione dei rifiuti.
Present at the meeting there’ll be doctors, economists, environmentalists and people who have specialised in waste management.
A Parma è intervenuta la Procura che ha chiesto il sequestro dell’inceneritore di Uguzzolo.
It was Parma that saw the intervention of the Prosecutors to ask for the sequestration of Uguzzolo.

The investigation is due to see 10 people being examined for their failure to get authorisation for the creation of the project.

Il gruppo IREN che sta realizzando l’inceneritore di Parma nasce il 1° luglio 2010 dalla fusione di Enìa in Iride e “si colloca ai vertici delle multiutilities nazionali”.
The IREN group that is constructing the Parma incinerator was created 1 July 2010 with the merging of Enìa and Iride and “it is positioned at the top of the national mulit-utlity companies”.
IREN è quotata in Borsa.
IREN is quoted on the Stock Exchange.

Per la proprietà transitiva è come quotare in Borsa i sindaci e le amministrazioni comunali, che si ritrovano ad essere sia clienti che azionisti.
Given the transitive ownership, it’s like quoting the mayors and the town councils on the Stock Exchange, people who turn out to be both clients and shareholders.
Un piccolissimo conflitto di interessi.
A tiny little conflict of interests.
Un esercizio di alta acrobazia con forniture quasi sempre erogate in regime di monopolio.
An exercise in high level acrobatics given that the supply is almost always provided in a monopolistic situation.
Il gruppo IREN ha circa tre miliardi di euro di debiti (su 3,5 miliardi di fatturato e 591 milioni di margine operativo lordo) e in Borsa ha perso il 34,55% da inizio anno (dato 11 settembre 2012).
The IREN group has debts amounting to about three billion euro (on a turnover of 3.5 billion and a gross operating margin of 591 million) and it has lost 34.55% on the Stock Exchange since the beginning of the year (figure relates to 11 September 2012).
Qualche domanda.
A few questions.
Perché i servizi essenziali per il cittadino come i rifiuti sono gestite da società esterne e non direttamente dai Comuni?
Why are services that are essential for the townspeople like refuse collection, not managed directly by the town authorities but managed by external companies?
Perché i costi di amministratori delegati, consiglieri di amministrazione, presidenti, eccetera, eccetera, di queste multiutility sono scaricati sulla comunità sotto forma di aumento delle tariffe?
Why are the costs of the CEOs, the Boards of Directors, the Presidents etc. etc., of these multi-utilities, offloaded onto the townspeople in the form of an increase in the charges?
Perché quotare in Borsa società che operano in regime di sostanziale monopolio partecipate dagli stessi clienti a cui forniscono i servizi?
Why are companies that operate in a situation that is basically a monopoly, quoted on the Stock Exchange when the shareholders are the very same clients to whom the services are provided?
Se queste multiutility dovessero fallire i debiti chi li pagherà?
If these multi-utilities were to go bust, who would pay their debts?
I Comuni già indebitati?
The towns with the biggest debts?
Al posto delle economie di scala, i maxi debiti di scala?
Instead of economies of scale, do you get maxi debts of scale?
