Pompei tra pomodori e autogrill
Pompeii with tomatoes and drive-through restaurants
A Pompei crescono i pomodori, cadono le travi, si scippano i turisti e non è prevista la prenotazione on line per l’ingresso.
In Pompei the tomatoes are growing nicely, the supporting beams are falling down, the tourists get their bags snatched and there’s no online system to get a ticket to go in.
Un posto ideale dove, tra le rovine, si può trovare anche un autogrill.
An ideal place to find a drive-through restaurant among the ruins.
Per ora non si può ancora entrare in macchina.
For the moment, you can’t take your car inside.
In luglio centinaia di turisti hanno rinunciato alla visita dopo essere stati arrostiti al sole in fila all’unica biglietteria.
In July hundreds of tourists gave up going to visit after being roasted alive in the blazing sun while they waited in the queue to get to the only ticket office.
Nell’area di 44 ettari unica al mondo avvengono crolli continui dovuti al degrado e alla scarsa manutenzione.

Bits of the frescoes are frequently falling off and small stones are often slipping down.
Pompei potrebbe essere esclusa dai siti patrimonio dell’umanità dell’Unesco.
Pompeii could be excluded from the list of UNESCO’s world heritage sites.
Succederà se entro il 2015 non saranno apportate le modifiche necessarie per la sua salvaguardia e se l’Italia non otterrà e utilizzerà in tempo 105 milioni di euro della UE per gli interventi.
This will happen unless by 2015, the necessary steps are taken to protect it and unless Italy claims and makes use of the EU’s 105 million euro for the work.
I commissari dell’Unesco hanno fatto una visita quest’anno, le loro conclusioni:
UNESCO’s inspectors visited this year, and their conclusions are:
“Carenze strutturali, infiltrazioni d’acqua, assenza di canaline di drenaggio, danni apportati dalla luce ai mosaici, costruzioni improprie, mancanza di personale, abusivismi”.
“Structural shortcomings, water infiltration, absence of drainage canals, damage to the mosaics caused by light, irregular construction, lack of personnel, and unauthorised activity”.
Nella relazione manca solo la previsione di una nuova eruzione del Vesuvio.
The only thing missing in the report is the prediction of Vesuvius erupting again.
Il nostro Paese ha beni inestimabili che potrebbero portare occupazione e ricchezza.

In Francia o in Spagna, Pompei sarebbe valorizzata e sfruttata economicamente.

Pompei potrebbe diventare un centro formidabile di occupazione e di prestigio della Campania e dell’Italia e invece viene lasciata cadere a pezzi.
Pompeii could be a fantastic centre providing employment and prestige for the region of Campania and for the whole of Italy, but instead it is allowed to fall to pieces.
Pompei vale 100 cacciabombardieri e 20 Tav in Val di Susa, ma per gli amministratori di questo Paese non vale nulla.
Pompeii is worth 100 fighter planes and 20 TAVs in Val di Susa, but for the people governing our country, it’s not worth anything.
Al British Museum di Londra è presente una mostra dedicata a Pompei “Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum”, costo di ingresso 15 sterline, 4.000 biglietti al giorno.
In London’s British Museum there’s an exhibition about Pompeii: “Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum”, ticket price: £15, 4,000 tickets per day.
Dura tre mesi.
It’s on for three months.
Gli incassi saranno di circa 11 milioni di sterline oltre ai ricavi dei libri e delle foto.
The revenue will be about £11 million and then there’s revenue from the sale of books and photos.
Gli oggetti della mostra sono stati prestati gratuitamente dallo Stato italiano perché altrimenti “Apparirebbe come l’iniziativa di uno Stato straccione, sarebbe veramente bizzarro farsi pagare i reperti esposti all’estero”.
The artefacts for the exhibition are on loan at zero cost from the Italian State because otherwise “It would seem like the initiative of a down-at-heel State. It would be truly bizarre to insist on payment for artefacts on display abroad”.
Il prossimo fine settimana tutti a Pompei, all’Autogrill “of course”.
