This business is worth some 1,000 billion Dollars, more than 300 billion of which is spent on marketing activities.

Ed è in questo marketing che si crea il concetto di salute o di malattia non finalizzata al benessere delle persone, ma al profitto di queste aziende.
It is within this marketing that they create the concept of healthcare or illness that is not aimed at people’s wellbeing but rather at these companies’ profits.”

Mi occupo da anni di salute e di prevenzione, sono qui per un nuovo concetto di salute e di prevenzione, diverso da quello imposto “dall’industria delle malattie”.
For years now I have been involved with healthcare and illness prevention and I’m here to talk about a new healthcare and illness prevention concept that is very different from that imposed by the “illness industry”.

Come siamo trasformati da sani in malati?
But how did we go from being healthy people to being sick people?

Attraverso un concetto molto semplice, l’estensione del dominio di malattie.
Well, via a very simple concept, namely the expansion of the illness dominion.

Si prendono dei parametri vitali come la pressione arteriosa, la colesterolemia, la glicemia e si abbassano questi parametri trasformando d’amblèe milioni di persone da sani in soggetti a rischio, e da soggetti a rischio in malati.
You take certain physical parameters such as blood pressure, high cholesterol and glycaemia and you lower the recommended levels of these parameters and, hey presto, millions of otherwise healthy people suddenly become people so-called “at risk” and others “at risk” suddenly become “ill” people.

Questa è un’operazione applicata a livello globale, fatta di finanziamenti, risorse economiche a fondazioni mediche, di congressi, fino alla corruzione nei casi più gravi degli stakeholder e degli opinion leader che promuovono un nuovo concetto di malattia estesa, anche con parametri bassi che coinvolgono le linee guida, cui tutto il mondo medico dovrà adeguarsi.
This is a global operation involving funding, the granting of financial resources to medical foundations, medical congresses and in the worst cases even to the extent of bribery and corruption of stakeholders and certain opinion leaders who then promote a new concept of extended illness, even with low parameters that concern guidelines to which the entire medical profession will have to adapt.

Nel 1984 il limite tra colesterolemia accettabile e non accettabile aveva un valore pari a 240, nel 2013 è passato a 200 e sarà ulteriormente abbassato a 180/190.
In 1984, the acceptable threshold limit between acceptable and non-acceptable cholesterol levels was set at 240, whereas in 2013 that level was lowered to 200 and is set to be further reduced to 180/190.

E’ dubbio il reale vantaggio del miglioramento di un singolo parametro, eppure si agisce così:
It is doubtful whether or not the improvement in a single parameter is an advantage, yet this is what they’re doing:

si spezzettano i tanti valori di rischio, si attribuisce un significato di malattia a ciascuno di questi valori e ci si dimentica di un approccio globale che riguarda sia il singolo, sia l’ambiente e le condizioni di vita in cui vive.
they’re splitting up a number of risk values and then attributing a meaning of illness to each of these values and losing sight of the overall picture that involves not only the individual him or herself, but also the environment and the living conditions in which that individual lives.

Tutto questo aumenta a dismisura il bilancio delle spese dei singoli Stati, anche l’Italia ha subito questo processo, un esempio?
All this  is disproportionately increasing the healthcare costs of individual countries and Italy has also experienced this process. An example, you ask?

Un singolo fattore di rischio trasformato in malattia?
Where one risk factor has been turned into an illness?

Il colesterolo e una intera classe di farmaci che si occupano non di ridurre una malattia, ma un fattore di rischi: l’ipercolesterolemia.
Cholesterol: an entire class of medicines that are not designed to cure an ailment but merely to control a risk factor, namely high cholesterol.

I farmaci sono le statine, ebbene dal 2003 al 2013, per le sole statine la spesa farmacologica italiana è stata di 7/8/9 miliardi.
These pharmaceuticals are known as statins and, as a matter of fact, between 2003 and 2013 the money spent on these medicines in Italy alone ran to 7/8/9 billion.

Altri esempi.
Here are some other examples.

Sono stati abbassati i valori di glicemia normale: da 126 a 110 a 100;
Normal glycaemia levels have been reduced from 126 to 110 and then to 100.

lo stesso è avvenuto con i valori di pressione arteriosa minima normale: da 90/95 degli anni ’80 siamo arrivati a un 80/85.
The same thing has happened with normal diastolic blood pressure levels which have been reduced from 90/95 in the 1980s to 80/85 now.

Nell’ambito della psicologia è stata inventata la sindrome da deficit di attenzione.
In the field of psychology they have invented the syndrome known as Attention Deficit Disorder.

Per questa nuova malattia negli Stati Uniti sono stati messi sotto terapia milioni di bambini che hanno l’unico torto di essere vivaci e sono solo in rarissimi casi aggressivi.
In the United States alone they have started treating millions of children for this disorder, their only fault being that they are very lively and only in very rare cases slightly aggressive.

Alla base di tutto c’è una grande operazione di persuasione di massa.
Behind all this is a huge mass persuasion exercise.

Il sistema di Big Pharma utilizza la ricerca scientifica, la congressistica, la cultura accademica fino alla comunicazione mediatica di massa, e tutto questo è finalizzato alla trasformazione di rischi in malattie.
The “Big Pharma” utilises scientific research, congresses, the academic culture and even the mass media in order to turn risks into recognised illnesses.

Il rischio viene frammentato, moltiplicato, aumentato nel suo potenziale effetto patologico e promosso a patologia per tutti.
The risks are split up, multiplied, their potential pathological effect is increased and then promoted to a pathology for everyone.

Dobbiamo ribaltare questa logica attraverso l’estensione del dominio di salute.
We need to overturn this logic by expanding the healthcare dominion.

Non possiamo sottovalutare i rischi, ma l’operazione incongrua è spezzettarli e trasformarli in malattie.
We certainly cannot afford to underestimate the risks but the biggest mistake that we can make is to split them up and turn them into illnesses.

Noi dobbiamo unificare i rischi attraverso il concetto di benessere e qualità della vita, globalizzando in un approccio unico la salute che è un diritto e non un’occasione di profitto.
What we have to do is to combine the risks together using the holistic concept of wellness and quality of life and globalise healthcare into a single approach because healthcare is a right and not an opportunity to make profits.

Si può cambiare tutto con una politica pubblica che abolisce il profitto dalla salute.
We can change the emphasis totally by means of a public policy that prohibits profiteering from healthcare.

Bisogna incidere alla radice del concetto di salute.
We have to act on the roots of the concept of healthcare.

La salute è qualità della vita, è ambiente, è lavoro, è tempo libero, risorse economiche per poter avere cura della propria persona.
Healthcare is quality of life, is the environment, is work, is free time and is financial resources to enable people to look after themselves.

La salute è una politica pubblica di servizio al cittadino che esclude le logiche di profitto e che dà qualità e quantità della vita.

Healthcare is a public policy that is there for the benefit of the citizens, which provides a good quality and length of life and that prohibits any form of profiteering.

Quali sono le linee guida, gli strumenti operativi per questo grande cambiamento?
But what guidelines and operational procedures are needed to bring about such a change?

– riappropriarsi della ricerca scientifica e delle università pubbliche, per poter fissare i nuovi parametri di questa salute
– take back control over scientific research and public universities so as to be able to set new healthcare parameters

– riappropriarsi del servizio sanitario pubblico, abolendo le convenzioni con le strutture private
– take back control over the public healthcare system and abolish preferential agreements with the private healthcare facilities

– riappropriarsi di una comunicazione diretta con i cittadini, utilizzando i nuovi strumenti come Internet, per fare informazione, formazione e prevenzione
– take back control over direct advertising aimed at the citizens, utilising the latest technologies like the Internet in order to inform, train and prevent illness

e tutto questo messo a regime farebbe risparmiare una quantità di denaro enorme, dandoci davvero una qualità della vita.
If all this was to become official policy, it would result in huge financial savings while providing us with real quality of life.
