Commission helps bring Europe’s best innovations to the market
Innovazione: grazie alla Commissione le migliori idee sbarcano sul mercato
With the support of the European Research Council (ERC) “Proof of Concept” grants, 59 researchers in Europe will now get the chance to turn their inventions into viable products.
Le borse “Proof of Concept” erogate del Consiglio europeo della ricerca (CER) offrono ora a 59 ricercatori europei la possibilità di trasformare le loro invenzioni in prodotti commerciabili.
Among these mould-breaking ideas are such innovations as a simple blood test to diagnose breast cancer, a timber wood tracking device to help prevent illegal deforestation, and artificial veins modelled on marine sponges.
Un semplice esame del sangue per diagnosticare il cancro al seno, un meccanismo di localizzazione del legname per impedire la deforestazione illegale, vene artificiali modellate sulle spugne marine: ecco solo alcune delle idee pionieristiche.
Worth up to €150,000, these grants will allow selected ERC grantees to build start-ups, establish intellectual property rights for their inventions or explore other ways to test their ideas on the market.
I beneficiari, che potranno usufruire di borse fino a 150 000 EUR a testa, potranno così mettere in piedi start up, garantirsi il godimento di diritti di proprietà intellettuale per le loro invenzioni o esplorare altri modi di sottoporre le loro idee alla prova del mercato.

The 59 grants announced today are part of the second round of the ERC Proof of Concept competition.
Le 59 borse annunciate oggi rientrano nella seconda tornata del bando CER “Proof of Concept”.
The budget for the whole call is €18 million. In total, 442 applications were submitted in this call; a 51% increase in comparison to the previous competition.
Dotato di un finanziamento complessivo di 18 milioni di euro, l’attuale bando ha ricevuto in tutto 442 proposte, 51% in più rispetto al precedente.

Set up in 2007 by the EU, the European Research Council is the first European funding organisation for excellent frontier research.

Every year, it selects and funds the very best, creative researchers of any nationality and age, to run five-year-projects based in Europe.

The ERC also strives to attract top researchers from anywhere in the world to come to Europe. To date, the ERC has funded more than 4,500 top researchers at various stages of their careers.

Under the new EU research and innovation programme Horizon 2020, the ERC has a considerably increased budget of over €13 billion.

The funding scheme ‘Proof of Concept’ was introduced in 2011 as top-up funding for ERC grantees to contribute to stimulating innovation.
Il sistema di finanziamento “Proof of Concept” è stato introdotto nel marzo 2011 come finanziamento integrativo destinato ai borsisti del Consiglio europeo della ricerca allo scopo di contribuire ad incentivare l’innovazione.
A single grant can be worth up to €150,000.
Ciascuna borsa di ricerca può arrivare a 150 000 euro.
The call is reserved for all researchers benefitting from an on-going or recently completed ERC grant.
Il bando è riservato a tutti i ricercatori beneficiari di una borsa CER ancora in corso o appena conclusa.
The funding is for up to 18 months per project.
La durata massima del finanziamento è di 18 mesi per ciascun progetto.
The next call for proposals – ‘Proof of Concept’ 2015 – is currently open with rounds of funding closing on 5 February, 28 May and 1 October 2015.
È attualmente aperto il nuovo invito a presentare proposte – “Proof of Concept 2015” –, suddiviso in tre tornate con scadenza rispettivamente il 5 febbraio, il 28 maggio e il 1° ottobre 2015.
According to the new rules, ERC grantees can apply only for one of the three rounds in this call.
In base alle nuove regole, i borsisti CER possono concorrere solo per una delle tre tornate.
