“Anche il Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella ha chiesto dal Forum di Cernobbio nuove regole comuni sul diritto d’asilo e il conseguente superamento del Regolamento di Dublino.
“Even the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella has asked the Ambrosetti Forum for new common regulations in relation to the right of asylum and a new set of rules to take over from the Dublin Regulation.
E anche il governo ora ammette che bisogna superare Dublino III, una norma che obbliga i richiedenti asilo a presentare la domanda nel Paese Ue in cui arrivano, dunque totalmente inefficace a far fronte a una emergenza come quella a cui stiamo assistendo in questi ultimi mesi.
And even the government is admitting that there’s a need to go beyond the Dublin Regulation, a regulation that says those asking for asylum must present their application in the EU country of arrival, and it is thus totally ineffective in tackling an emergency like the one we’ve been witnessing in the last few months.
La domanda è: perché solo adesso le istituzioni italiane si stanno svegliando?

What’s been happening in the last few days in relation to the Dublin Regulation should have happened earlier and this is the demonstration of the weakness of this government, left isolated by the EU as long as the immigration problem was simply an Italian problem, a problem of a government that was not capable of getting other member states to listen to it, a government without authority, a government that cannot make its voice heard.
