A werewolf Grillo in London

Nel 2010, per la prima volta nella mia vita ho fatto un tour all’estero con lo spettacolo:
In 2010, for the first time in my life, I did a tour abroad with my show:

“Incredible Italy”, un avviso ai naviganti sulla capacità di contagio, nel bene e nel male dell’Italia.
“Incredible Italy”, a warning to navigators on Italy’s capacity for contagion for good or evil.

Ultimamente soprattutto nel male.
Just recently, above all for evil.

Siamo un Paese straordinario che ha esportato il fascismo, le banche, la mafia.
We are an extraordinary country that has exported fascism, the banks and the mafia.

Noi ci siamo abituati, abbiamo anticorpi millenari, ma gli altri sono indifesi.
We are used to it and we have the age-old anti-bodies, but the others are defenceless.

Come i pellerossa con il vaiolo, i maya con il morbillo.
Like the redskins and smallpox, like the Maya and measles.

Avevo qualche timore prima di partire, come un principiante al debutto.
I was a bit scared before I left, like a beginner at his debut.

Ma sono stato a Londra, Parigi, Monaco di Baviera, Bruxelles e in altre città europee e ovunque c’è stato un sold out.
But I’ve been to London, Paris, Munich, Brussels and other European cities and everywhere it was “sold out”.

In Italia ne ha parlato solo qualche giornale di provincia, come una notizia di colore o per per dare del farabutto al comico che sputtana l’Italia.
In Italy only a few provincial newspapers talked about it, like a colourful news item or to talk about the scoundrel who badmouths Italy.

Ma come potrei rubare la scena al più grande sputtanatore italico degli ultimi 150 anni, lo psiconano asfaltato?
But how could I steal the show from the greatest Italian “badmouther” of the last 150 years, the tar-headed psycho-dwarf?

E’ una missione impossibile.
It’s mission impossible.

A Londra sono rimasto una settimana, sono stato invitato alla London School of Economics e a Oxford per tenere un discorso.
I stayed a week in London. I was invited to the London School of Economics and to Oxford to give lectures.

L’ambasciata italiana si è lamentata con l’Università di Oxford per l’invito, se fossero stati invitati Cuffaro o Dell’Utri avrebbero ringraziato il rettore.
The Italian Embassy complained to the University of Oxford for the invitation. If the invitation had gone to Cuffaro or Dell’Utri, they would have thanked the Chancellor.

Ho incontrato Ken Livingstone, l’ex sindaco di Londra che ha proibito i parcheggi e rivoluzionato i trasporti urbani.
I met up with Ken Livingstone, the former Mayor of London who prohibited parking and revolutionised urban transport.

Mi sono fatto spiegare dalla Environment Agency come il Tamigi sia diventato un fiume pulito con i delfini che lo risalgono dal mare, mentre solo vent’anni fa era una cloaca.
I got the Environment Agency to explain how the Thames has become a clean river with dolphins that come up it from the sea, whereas only twenty years ago it was a sewer.

Il ministro dell’Energia mi ha ricevuto nel suo ufficio.
The Minister of the Environment received me in his office.

Sono stato alla BBC, al The Economist dove non riescono a credere a quello che succede nel nostro Paese e ne hanno paura.
I went to the BBC, to The Economist here they cannot believe what is happening in our country and they are afraid of it.

Se è successo da noi, può succedere ovunque.
If it has happened with us, it can happen anywhere.

La democrazia si può trasformare in telecrazia.
Democracy can be transformed into telecracy.

Ho visitato un quartiere ecosostenibile con case che costano e consumano la metà delle nostre.
I visited an eco-sustainable neighbourhood with houses that cost and consume half as much as ours do.

Ho visto un altro pianeta da cui, pur con tutti i suoi difetti, ci separano anni luce.
I saw another planet, from which, even with all its defects, we are separated by light years.

E non solo per le file ordinate all’autobus, il passaporto in un giorno, le macchine che si fermano se sfiori una striscia pedonale, il wi-fi veloce ovunque e la possibilità per un portatore di handicap di circolare per strada.
And not just for the orderly bus queues, the passport in a day, the cars that stop if you approach a pedestrian crossing, the fast Wi-Fi that’s everywhere and the possibility for one who is handicapped to move around on the streets.

O per le mille altre cose che rendono la vita più semplice, diversa dalla giungla che è diventata l’Italia.
Or for the thousands of other things that make life simpler, different from the jungle that Italy has become.

Anche per tutto questo, ma l’Inghilterra è soprattutto un mondo differente perché si discute di futuro.
Even for all this, but England is above all a different world because there’s a discussion of the future.

Da quanto non ci occupiamo del nostro futuro?
For how long have we not been dealing with the future?

Una volta, varcando la frontiera italiana si notavano delle differenze, ma non c’era quella sensazione di aver lasciato dietro di sé uno stagno immobile, una realtà congelata intenta a osservare il proprio ombelico.
Once upon a time, going over the border from Italy, you noticed the differences, but there wasn’t the sensation of having left behind you a stagnant pool, a frozen reality intent on navel gazing.

Ho incontrato molti ragazzi e ragazze che sperano in un cambiamento dell’Italia per poter ritornare.
I met up with many young men and women who are hoping for a change in Italy so that they can come back.

Mi è sembrato a un certo punto di essere scambiato per Garibaldi di fronte a tanto affetto.
At a certain point it felt like being muddled up with Garibaldi when I found so much affection.

A Londra, non posso negarlo, mi sono anche divertito.
I can’t deny it, I enjoyed myself in London.

Gli inglesi sono un’istigazione alla satira da strada.
The English are instigation to street satire.

Il mio viaggio nella Londra del secondo millennio è diventato un racconto: “Un Grillo mannaro a Londra” che sarà disponibile entro aprile e prenotabile da oggi.
My journey to London in the second millennium has become a story: “A werewolf Grillo in London ” that’ll be available during the month of April and can be ordered from today.

E’ gratuito per le scuole.
It’s free for the schools.
