I am standing by Emergency: sign the appeal
Oggi ho sottoscritto l’appello “Io sto con Emergency”, lanciato dall’organizzazione stessa, a sostegno dei tre operatori italiani (Matteo Dell’Aira, Marco Garatti e Matteo Pagani) arrestati a Lashkar Gah, in Afghanistan.
Today I signed the appeal: ‘Io sto con Emergency’ {I’m standing by Emergency}, started by the organisation itself, in support of the three Italian workers (Matteo Dell’Aira, Marco Garatti and Matteo Pagani ) arrested in Lashkar Gah, in Afghanistan.
Emergency è presente in Afganistan dal 1999 con tre centri chirurgici, un centro di maternità, una rete di 28 centri sanitari.
Emergency has been present in Afghanistan since 1999 with three hundred surgeons, a maternity centre and a network of 28 health centres.
L’Italia ha rinnovato i finanziamenti alla missione afghana e rinforzato il contingente militare, e quindi il proprio impegno, proprio mentre gli Stati Uniti studiavano un piano di ritiro truppe da quella regione.
Italy has renewed financing to the Afghan mission and reinforced the military contingent, and thus its own commitment, right at the time when the United States was studying a plan to withdraw troops from that region.
La nostra nazione merita almeno di avere le dovute spiegazioni e garanzie affinchè vengano rispettati i diritti umani dei connazionali arrestati.
Our nation deserves at least to have the explanations and guarantees so that the human rights of its nationals who have been arrested can be respected.
Mi chiedo se il governo stia tergiversando nel pretendere un canale preferenziale per ricevere spiegazioni e dettagli dell’operazione, oppure stia tacendo al Paese le informazioni in suo possesso, limitandosi ad accusare il Times di aver divulgato “notizie erronee”.
I’m wondering whether the government is prevaricating in insisting on a preferential channel to receive explanations and details of the operation, or whether it has the information and it is keeping it from the country, just limiting itself to accusing ‘The Times’ of having divulged “erroneous news”.
>>> E’ grave, inoltre, che alcuni esponenti della maggioranza parlamentare abbiano avanzato insinuazioni ignobili e che da parte del Governo, piuttosto che offrire incondizionata solidarietà a Emergency, ci sia stato solo il timido e blando augurio che questa fosse estranea alla vicenda.
What’s more is that it is serious that certain leaders of the parliamentary Majority have put forward ignoble insinuations and that on the part of the Government, rather than offering unconditional solidarity with ‘Emergency’, there has only been a timid and bland wish that this organisation is not connected to the affair.
Sabato 17 alle 14.30, Italia dei Valori sarà a Piazza Navona a Roma al fianco di Gino Strada per chiedere la liberazione dei tre connazionali.
On Saturday 17 April at 2:30 pm, Italia dei Valori will be in Rome’s Piazza Navona at the side of Gino Strada to call for the liberation of the three Italian nationals.
Sono certo che la vicenda si risolverà con il completo scagionamento e la liberazione degli operatori di Emergency, fiore all’occhiello ed espressione di uno dei più alti principi sanciti dalla nostra Costituzione, l’articolo undici:
I am certain that the affair will end with the release of the ‘Emergency’ staff, the pride and joy and expression of one of the highest principles laid down in our Constitution, article eleven:
“l’Italia ripudia la guerra come strumento di offesa alla libertà degli altri popoli e come mezzo di risoluzione delle controversie internazionali”. Ed Emergency, con il suo operato e la sua storia, ne è la chiara, indiscutibile ed intoccabile dimostrazione.
“Italy rejects war as an instrument of aggression against the freedom of other peoples and as a means for the settlement of international disputes.” And it is ‘Emergency’ with its activities and its history that is the clear, indisputable and inviolable demonstration of that.
