Cozza Day, istruzioni per l’uso
Mussel Day, user guide

Il 10 settembre 2011 ci sarà l’impepata di cozze a Roma.
On September 10 2011, there’ll be the dish of peppered steamed mussels in Rome.

Alle 15 partirà da piazza Navona una processione laica.
At 3:00 pm the lay procession will leave piazza Navona.

Ognuno con la sua cozza in mano.
Each person holding a mussel.

In fila indiana.
In Indian file.

Ordinati sul marciapiede per via santa Giovanna D’Arco.
In good order on the pavement along via santa Giovanna D’Arco.

La cozza sarà deposta in un cestone in piazza Montecitorio.
The mussel will be deposited in a big basket in piazza Montecitorio.

Partirò per primo con il mio carico di gusci di cozze freschi fatti arrivare da Livorno.
I will start first with my load of shells of fresh mussels delivered from Livorno.

E’ importante essere disciplinati, non saltare la fila.
It’s important to be disciplined. Don’t jump the queue.

Dare l’impressione di una forza tranquilla che nessun potere può intimidire.
Give the impression of a calm force that no power can intimidate.

Non fornire alcun alibi al Sistema.
Don’t give the System any alibi.

The Country can only be changed by politics but not by this lot of politicians.

Gli italiani devono poter esercitare i loro diritti democratici, come hanno fatto per il referendum per l’acqua e per il nucleare.
Italians have to be able to exercise their democratic rights, as they have done for the referendum for water and for nuclear.

E come hanno chiesto con Parlamento Pulito, una proposta ignorata da tutti i partiti da quattro anni.
It’s like what they asked for with “Cleanup Parliament” a proposal ignored by all the parties for 4 years.

Il potere deve ritornare nelle mani dei suoi legittimi proprietari: i cittadini.
The power has to return into the hands of its legitimate owners: the citizens.

La partitocrazia è una forma diversa di dittatura, più subdola perché ti illude di essere in democrazia.
The party-ocracy is a different form of dictatorship, more insidious because you fool yourself that you are in a democracy.

I partiti hanno preso il possesso del Paese, il Parlamento è stato nominato da 5 segretari di partito.
The parties have taken possession of the country. Parliament has been appointed by 5 party secretaries.

Questa è democrazia?
Is this democracy?

In piazza Navona saranno presenti dal mattino alcuni stand.
In piazza Navona a few stands will be present starting in the morning.

Uno per Parlamento Pulito e gli altri per le proposte del MoVimento 5 Stelle tratte dal Programma.
One for “Cleanup Parliament” and the others for the proposals of the 5 Star MoVement taken from the Programme.

Per chi volesse gustarsi un’impepata di cozze parlamentare, ecco la ricetta:
For anyone who wants to taste a parliamentary dish of peppered steamed mussels, here’s the recipe:

Pulire accuratamente le cozze parlamentari con acqua pubblica più volte.
Carefully wash the parliamentary mussels using public water. Repeat a few times.

Una volta pulite, mettetele in una casseruola capiente a bordo alto a prova di leggi ad personam, insieme a qualche cucchiaio di olio extra e due spicchi d’aglio schiacciati.
Once they are clean, place in a large casserole with high sides to protect against “ad personam” laws, add a few spoons of extra virgin olive oil and two squashed cloves of garlic.

Coprire la pentola per evitare la fuga delle cozze da Montecitorio e mettere a fuoco democratico vivace.
Cover the pan to prevent the escape of any Montecitorio mussels and turn on the lively democratic heat.

Durante la cottura, mescolare le cozze tra loro: prendere la pentola per i manici e scuoterla con un movimento dal basso.
While cooking, mix the mussels around: take hold of the handles and shake with a movement from below.

Il tempo di fare aprire le cozze e l’impepata è pronta. Va servita immediatamente, dopo averla spolverata con molto pepe nero macinato al momento.
You just need the time to get the mussels open and the dish of peppered mussels is ready, once you have dusted it with a lot of freshly ground black pepper right there and then.

Accompagnare con spicchi di limone e fette di pane tostato.
Accompany this with slices of lemon and pieces of toasted bread.

Il Parlamento Pulito a questo punto è servito.
At this point the Clean Parliament is served.

Appuntamento per l’impepata di cozze domani a Roma, piazza Navona ore 15.
Make a date with the dish of peppered mussels tomorrow in Rome, piazza Navona at 3:00 pm.

Loro non si arrenderanno mai (ma gli conviene?).
They will never give up (but is it in their interests?).
