L’Italia senza petrolio si fermerebbe.
An Italy without oil would come to a halt.

I primi cinque Paesi da cui lo importiamo sono Arabia Saudita, Azerbaijan, Iran, Libia e Russia.
The top five countries that we import it from are Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Libya and Russia.

L’Italia era il partner principale della Libia, dove, dopo la guerra a Gheddafi (oggi è presidente un suo ex-ministro…) conta come il due di picche.
Italy was Libya’s main partner.Now since the war with Gaddafi (today one of his former Ministers is President …) it counts like the two of spades.

L’influenza commerciale sull’area si è spostata a Washington e a Parigi.
The commercial influence in the area has shifted to Washington and Paris.

Con la Libia ci siamo comportati né più né meno come nelle guerre mondiali.
With Libya we behaved no differently from in the world wars.

Adesso è il turno dell’Iran dal quale l’Italia importa il 13% del greggio annuale e con cui l’ENI fa da sempre buoni affari.
Now it’s Iran’s turn. It’s a country from which Italy imports 13% of its crude oil each year and one with which ENI has always traded well.

Alla Farnesina, qualche giorno prima di Natale, mentre ci si occupava di amenità come il prelievo massimo in contanti dei pensionati, si è tenuta una riunione con la presenza, tra gli altri, dei rappresentanti di Stati Uniti, Canada, Francia, Germania, Gran Bretagna e Italia (c’era anche un funzionario della UE a fare da tappezzeria) per discutere delle sanzioni all’Iran.
At the Farnesina Palace a few days before Christmas, while they were merrily sorting out how to take the maximum amount of cash from pensioners, there was a meeting with the presence of, among others, representatives from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain and Italy (there was also an EU civil servant as window dressing) to discuss sanctions on Iran.

La UE in politica estera dovrebbe avere una sola voce.

In sostanza le sanzioni all’Iran si traducono in un embargo.
Basically sanctions against Iran mean an embargo.

Non si compra più il suo petrolio in modo che non possa investire i profitti nel riarmo.
There’s no further purchase of their oil so that they cannot invest the profits in rearmament.

L’Italia però, pur aderendo, ha invocato il “pregresso”, i crediti che ha nei confronti dell’Iran che quindi le consentirebbero di importare greggio anche durante l’embargo.
Italy, even though it is agreeing to this, has invoked the “pregresso” : credits it has with Iran that would allow it to import crude oil even during the embargo.

L’Iran non ha digerito le sanzioni che strangolerebbero la sua economia e ha minacciato la chiusura dello stretto di Hormuz dal quale transitano 17 milioni di barili al giorno, pari al 20% del petrolio mondiale che viene commerciato e, per sicurezza, ha fatto dei test per missili a largo raggio.
Iran has not been pleased with the sanctions that would strangle its economy and it has threatened to close the Straits of Hormuz, which sees the transit of 17 million barrels a day, that’s 20% of the oil traded in the world and just to be safe, it has been testing its long range missiles.

Il Pentagono ha spiegato che “Si tratta di spostamenti che avvengono regolarmente per garantire la stabilità della Regione”.
The Pentagon explained that “It’s a matter of movements that take place regularly to guarantee the stability of the region”.

Se venisse bloccato anche solo temporaneamente lo stretto di Hormuz, il prezzo del barile schizzerebbe a 150 dollari(la media del 2011 è stata di 100).
If the Straits of Hormuz were to be blocked even for a short wh, the price per barrel would shoot up to 150 dollars (the average for 2011 was 100).

Gli americani stabilizzano i Paesi dove sono presenti i loro interessi.
The Americans stabiise the countries where there’s the presence of their interests.

Il pianeta è cosa loro.
The planet is theirs.

La Ue invece, come le stelle fisse, resta a guardare.
Whereas, the EU, like a fixed star, just stays and watches.

Cina e Russia hanno dichiarato che non potranno tollerare un intervento degli Stati Uniti contro l’Iran.
China and Russia have declared that they cannot tolerate an intervention by the United States against Iran.

L’Italia non deve preoccuparsi, è senza una politica estera, ma vanta “crediti pregressi”.
Italy doesn’t have to worry. It has no foreign policy but it is claiming “crediti pregressi”.
