Here no one is stupid

Ieri il presidente dei partiti (in quanto eletto dai loro nominati) Giorgio Napolitano ha detto che il M5S ha un chiodo fisso e se ne frega dei problemi della gente e del Paese in merito alla sua proposta di indulto e amnistia per liberare le carceri.
Yesterday the President of the Parties (the one elected by their appointees), Giorgio Napolitano, said that the M5S has an obsession and doesn’t give a toss about the problems of the people and of the country in relation to his proposal about the pardon and amnesty to free up the prisons.

Il sospetto che questo appello avvenga per salvare Berlusconi e una miriade di colletti bianchi è lecito.
The suspicion that this is happening in order to save Berlusconi and loads of white collar workers is legitimate.

Le lacrime napulitane versate per coloro che sono detenuti sono sospette da parte di chi è parte fondante di questa classe politica dal 1953 ed è ora nel suo ottavo anno di presidenza.
The Neapolitan tears shed for those who are behind bars are suspicious when they are issuing from someone who was one of the founders of the 1953 political class and who is now in his eighth year as President.

Le carceri sono piene perché molte sono inutilizzate, perché leggi inutili e dannose come la Fini-Giovanardi sono in vigore, perché i cittadini extracomunitari e comunitari detenuti non vengono mandati nel loro Paese a scontare la pena.
The prisons are full because many are not used, because useless and harmful laws like the Fini-Giovanardi law are in operation, and because European and non-European prisoners are not being sent to their own countries to serve their sentences.

Cosa ha fatto su questi punti, signor Presidente?
What have you done about these issues, signor President?

Si è svegliato ora con una soluzione che non risolve nulla perché la maggior parte di chi verrà scarcerato in pochi mesi tornerà in galera.
You have woken up now with a solution that will resolve nothing, because most of those who will be freed from prison will be back inside in a few months.

Ruberà ancora, minaccerà ancora, si macchierà degli stessi reati.
They will steal, they will use threatening behaviour and will be committing the same crimes as before.

E il richiamo per i delinquenti degli altri Paesi diventerà una sirena irresistibile:
It’s power to draw in criminals from other countries will be an irresistible attraction:

“In Italia si può fare ciò che si vuole: passaparola!”.
“In Italy you can do anything you want: spread the word!”.

Il M5S ha presentato a luglio una proposta per la riforma delle carceri.
In July, the M5S put forward a proposal for prison reform.

Nessuna risposta.

Sa per caso chi è Niki Gatti, il ragazzo morto in carcere, signor Presidente?

Il M5S ha chiesto più volte l’introduzione del reato di tortura non previsto nel codice penale, unico caso tra le nazioni occidentali.
On a number of occasions, the M5S has called for the introduction of the crime of torture that is not yet included in the criminal code, and Italy is the only Western country without this.

Ne era a conoscenza, signor Presidente?
Were you aware of that, signor President?

Lei sa meglio di chiunque che l’amnistia e l’indulto non risolvono il problema delle carceri e aggraveranno i conflitti sociali come è successo con l’indulto del 2006 del mancato carcerato Mastella.
You know better than anyone that amnesties and pardons solve none of the prison problems and they increase social tensions as can be seen from the 2006 Great Pardon meaning that Mastella didn’t serve time in prison.

Perché lo fa allora, signor Presidente?
So why are you doing this, signor President?

Lei dovrebbe essere super partes e non lo è quando attacca il M5S, che rappresenta otto milioni e mezzo di italiani, che ha restituito i finanziamenti elettorali, che si è tagliato gli stipendi, che sta ogni giorno nel Paese e tra la gente al contrario del Palazzo che lei rappresenta, signor Presidente.
You should be “super partes” {impartial} and you are not being impartial when you attack the M5S that represents eight and a half million people in Italy, that has given back the money for electoral financing, that has cut the salaries of its own people, that stays in the country and with the people every day, unlike the Palace that you represent, signor President.

Si è vero, abbiamo un chiodo fisso, quello dell’onestà, e non lo baratteremo con nessuno.
Yes it’s true. We are obsessed. Obsessed about honesty. And we are not going to enter negotiations about it with anyone.

Su questo lei ha ragione, signor Presidente.
You’re right on this score, signor President.

Noi non molleremo, si metta l’animo in pace.
You can rest assured, we will not let up.
