The debt from nothing

Il campo dei miracoli si trova vicino alla città acchiappa-citrulli.
The Field of Miracles is near to the city of Catchfools.

Qui Pinocchio viene persuaso a piantare i suoi zecchini d’oro dai due compari, il Gatto e la Volpe.
Here Pinocchio is persuaded by the two accomplices, the Cat and the Fox, to plant his gold coins.

Il campo avrebbe fatto crescere dai denari, in una notte, un albero pieno di monete.
It’s said that the field has seen the growth of a tree full of coins in just one night.

Sapete il resto della storia, i due truffatori rubano gli zecchini e fuggono.
You know the rest of the story. The two swindlers steal the gold coins and run away.

Collodi fu profetico.
Collodi was prophetic.

Sostituite Pinocchio con gli italiani (ma anche i greci, gli irlandesi, gli spagnoli, i portoghesi), mettete al posto del Gatto e la Volpe, la BCE, Draghi, Monti, Passera e la Merkel.
Substitute Pinocchio with the Italians (but also with the Greeks, the Irish, the Spanish, and the Portuguese) in place of the Cat and the Fox, place the ECB, Draghi, Monti, Passera and Merkel.

Il campo dei miracoli sono le odierne banche europee e gli zecchini d’oro il debito pubblico.
The Field of Miracles today stands for the European banks, and the gold coins stand for the public debt.

Si paga con l’aumento delle tasse, il tracollo dei servizi sociali, la disoccupazione, il taglio degli investimenti, le nuove povertà.
It’s paid for by increasing taxes, the collapse of social services, unemployment, cuts in investments, the new poverties.

Lo Stato che si indebita deve, prima di ogni altra cosa, pagare gli interessi sul debito.
The State that gets into debt must pay the interest on the debt before it does anything else.

Per salvare l’Europa l’idea geniale, degna di una testa di legno, la soluzione definitiva, è quella di sotterrare nel campo dei miracoli, rappresentato dalle banche, enormi quantità di debito.
To save Europe, the brilliant idea, worthy of a wooden head, the definitive solution, is that of burying in the Field of Miracles, represented by the banks, enormous quantities of debt.

I 1.000 miliardi di euro dati dalla BCE alle banche a inizio anno vengono infatti da nuovo debito finanziato attraverso i titoli pubblici.
The 1,000 billion euro given by the ECB to the banks at the beginning of the year have in fact come from new debt financed through public bonds.

Il recente salvagente di 100 miliardi alle banche spagnole è anch’esso nuovo debito.
The recent life jacket of 100 billion to the Spanish banks is also new debt.

Le banche non danno frutti, però non falliscono, questo in fin dei conti è l’obiettivo.
The banks are not bearing fruit, but they are not going bust. At the end of the day, this is the objective.

Salteranno prima gli Stati con il default, se li lasceranno fallire, o, in caso contrario, con la miseria generalizzata.
The States will go bust first with a default, if they are allowed to go bust, or otherwise, with generalised poverty.

Il denaro dal nulla crea onnipotenza.
Money from nothing creates omnipotence.

You can generate it like a newbie Creator each time it’s needed.

Nel Paese degli acchiappa-citrulli (avete indovinato: è l’Italia) Passera può promettere senza un attimo di esitazione 100 miliardi di euro di investimenti che teneva nel cassetto e Giarda affermare che si possono tagliare subito 100 miliardi di costi e arrivare fino a 300 (allora perchè reintrodurre l’IMU?).
In the country of the Catchfools (you’ve guessed: it’s Italy) Passera can without a moment’s hesitation promise 100 billion euro of investments that he was keeping in the cupboard and Giarda states that it is possible to cut 100 billion in costs straight away and get up to 300 (so why then bring back the IMU tax?)

Siamo ricchi, straricchi di debito, in pratica degli straccioni inconsapevoli.
We are rich, extra rich in debt. Basically we are unknowing ragamuffins.
