Greece is on fire and Tremorti is the fireman

“Serve il federalismo fiscale altrimenti l’Italia fa la fine della Grecia, è assolutamente necessario.”
“We have to have fiscal federalism or else Italy will go the same way as Greece, it is absolutely essential.”

Lo ha detto Bossi, senza aggiungere che con il federalismo fiscale, di cui nessuno ha calcolato i costi, faremo invece la fine dell’Argentina.
Bossi said this without adding that with fiscal federalism, the cost of which no one has bothered to work out, we will go the same way as Argentina.

La scelta è difficile, fallire subito o rimandare?
It’s hard to choose whether to declare bankruptcy immediately or to delay?

Le agenzie di rating hanno declassato i titoli di Stato greci a spazzatura.
The rating agencies downgraded the Greek government bonds to the status of trash.

Il debito della Grecia non ha più mercato, i suoi titoli sono invendibili.
There is no longer a market for Greece’s debt and the Country’s bonds are completely unsaleable.

Li possono comprare solo banche greche su ordine del Governo centrale.
The only ones buying them are the Greek banks, ordered to do so by the central Government.

Without access to debt, Greece can only plead for charity from other Countries in order to avoid bankruptcy and default on its public debt repayments, with its subsequent exit from the Euro.

L’elemosina, comunque insufficiente, tarda però ad arrivare, un aiuto stimato in 45 miliardi di euro per non fallire subito.
This charity, which is inadequate in any event, has been slow in coming, and the aid required in order to avoid immediate bankruptcy is estimated to be 45 billion Euro.

La Grecia ha necessità di reperire 160 miliardi di euro per i prossimi tre anni solo per finanziare gli interessi sui titoli di Stato emessi, pagare i titoli di Stato in scadenza e il disavanzo annuo tra entrate e uscite.
Greece needs to find 160 billion Euro over the next three years just to fund the interest payments on its maturing government bonds and its annual deficit between income and expenditure.

Il prestito di 45 miliardi sarà finanziato dal Fondo Monetario Internazionale per 10/15 miliardi e da alcune nazioni europee, tra queste la Germania con 8,4 miliardi e l’Italia con 5,5 miliardi (quasi il triplo dell’Olanda e più della Spagna con 3,7 miliardi).
The 45 billion Euro loan will be partly funded by the International Monetary Fund, to the tune of 10/15 billion, and the remainder by a number of European Countries, amongst them Germany with 8.4 billion and Italy with 5.5 billion (almost triple the amount contributed by Holland and more than Spain’s 3.7 billion).

L’86% dei tedeschi è contrario al prestito, non vuole pagare per la finanza allegra di altri Paesi.
86% of all Germans are against the loan. They don’t want to pay the price for other Countries’ free spending.

Tremorti invece è entusiasta, il parere degli italiani non è noto anche perché nessuno li ha interpellati.
Tremorti, instead, is very enthusiastic, but the opinion of the Italians is unknown, mainly because no one has even bothered to ask them what they think.

La Merkel, prima di consegnare i soldi dei tedeschi al primo ministro greco George Papandreou vuole avere la rassicurazione che la Grecia metterà a posto i suoi conti.
Before handing over any of the German people’s money to Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, Ms. Merkel is demanding some sort of assurance that Greece will balance its books.

Tremorti ha invece fretta di erogare il prestito per paura che il fuoco divampi.
Instead, Tremorti is in a hurry to hand out the loan for fear that the fire will spread.

La Grecia, infatti, è vicina.
Indeed, Greece is very close by.

Il nostro debito pubblico è di circa 1.800 miliardi, nei primi mesi del 2010 è aumentato di più di 30 miliardi, il tasso di disoccupazione italiano è comparabile a quello greco.
Our public debt currently stands at approximately 1,800 billion and during the first few months of 2010 it increased by more than 30 billion, while Italy’s unemployment rate is comparable to that of Greece.

Il saldo import/export 2009 è stato negativo per circa 280 milioni di euro, mentre nel 2008 era positivo per 10 miliardi.
Our import/export balance for 2009 stood at minus 280 million Euro, while in 2008 it was plus 10 billion.

Le entrate fiscali sono in diminuzione mese dopo mese, la spesa pubblica è in continuo aumento ed è la peggiore sul Pil degli ultimi 10 anni, pari al 52,3%.
Our tax revenues are declining month after month, our public debt is increasing continuously and our debt to GDP ratio is the worst it has been in the past ten years at 52.3%.

I numeri greci e quelli italiani sono simili, qualche volta sono peggio loro, altre volte stiamo peggio noi.
The Greek and Italian figures are very similar indeed. In some areas theirs are worse and in other areas ours are worse.

Se fallisce la Grecia, l’euro vacilla.
If Greece eventually fails, the Euro will totter.

Se fallisce l’Italia, l’euro sprofonda insieme a tutti i nostri creditori.
If Italy eventually fails, the Euro will sink altogether, together with all our creditors.

Per ora il nostro immenso debito pubblico ci protegge.
For the time being, our huge public debt is also our saving grace.

Nel 2010 Tremorti deve collocare 450 miliardi di euro di titoli e pagare 70/80 miliardi di interessi (pari a 4/5 finanziarie) su quelli già emessi.
In 2010, Tremorti will have to move 450 billion Euro worth of government bonds and pay out 70/80 billion in interest (equivalent to 4/5 annual budgets) on the bonds already issued.

I greci, a confronto, sono dei dilettanti.
The Greeks are absolute amateurs by comparison.
