The political party parties

E’ settembre, il mese dei ripensamenti sul tempo e sull’età.
We’re now in September, traditionally a time when thoughts turn to the passage of time and one’s age.

Il mese in cui, implacabili, ritornano, insieme alla vendemmia, le feste di partito.
The month in which, invariably, the time comes for not only the grape harvest, but also the political party parties.

Non c’è grande città, cittadina, paese che non ne abbia una.
There is no large city, little town or village that doesn’t have its own one.

La festa di partito ha i suoi cerimoniali, le sue liturgie, un rito sacro celebrato con i soldi pubblici.
Each political party party has its own ceremonies, liturgies and sacred rites, all performed using public funds.

La prima sono gli ospiti, di solito degli altri partiti.
The main consideration is the guests, who are usually people from the other political parties.

La seconda sono i dibattiti politici con gli ospiti degli altri partiti.
The second consideration is the political debates involving the guests from the other political parties.

La terza sono i giornalisti che riportano sui media i dibattiti politici del segretario del partito ospite, o di un suo delegato, con deputati e senatori degli altri partiti.
The third is the journalists that report on the political discussions between the guest party secretaries or one of their deputies and the other political parties’ deputies and senators.

The Unity festivities have a way of always being memorable, this year’s festivities because of the subliminal advertising for Ferrarelle and the military occupation of every public space, garden and park throughout the Country for weeks on end.

La crisi non ferma le feste di partito, che anzi sono utili per spiegare al cittadino ignaro e sempre più preoccupato i motivi della crisi e a prospettare le giuste soluzioni.
The crisis has not dented the political party parties in the least and, indeed, they are useful in terms of explaining the reasons for the crisis and suggesting the ideal solutions to the ignorant and increasingly concerned citizens.

Un pensatore, di solito un filosofo, è sempre presente per spiegare che ci vuole più Stato e meno mercato (filosofo di estrema sinistra, ormai raro) o più mercato e meno Stato (tutti gli altri filosofi).
There is always a thinker, usually a philosopher of some sort in attendance at these political party parties, to explain that what is needed is either more State and less Market (the extreme left-wing philosopher, something that is becoming a real rarity these days) or more Market and less State (all the other philosophers).

Gli ospiti celebri o di grido sono molto ricercati nelle feste di partito, più li paghi per partecipare (e di solito il loro ingaggio è notevole) più dimostrano un sincero attaccamento al partito.
Celebrity guests, or the latest in-people are very much sought after for these political party parties and the more you pay them to attend (their attendance fees are usually pretty high) the more they display their sincere support for the party.

Se ogni artista, scrittore, giornalista ha il suo prezzo, il partito ha comunque la sua borsa, piena di finanziamenti elettorali, per pagarlo.
While every artist, author and journalist has his/her price, price is no object because the party coffers are bursting at the seams with election funding with which to pay these fees.

E’ un periodo gioioso in cui si lanciano leggi elettorali, alla francese, alla tedesca, alla lituana, in cui i partiti si prendono e si lasciano nel giro di pochi giorni nella costruzione di nuove e vecchie alleanze.
It is a joyful time in which French-style, German-style and Lithuanian-style election laws are bandied about and the political parties take up with each other and drop each other all within just a few short days, building new and re-building old alliances.

Un momento alto e profondo di dichiarazioni “forti” e importanti , subito riportate dai giornali di “area”, e per dare i giusti messaggi al Paese.
A pious and profound moment in time when “powerful” and important statements are made, all of course immediately reported in the party-aligned newspapers, aimed at sending the right message to the Country.

A ottobre, In Senato e alla Camera si ritroveranno tutti un po’ appesantiti, dai segretari all’ultimo dei parlamentari, ma felici di aver scritto un’altra pagina di democrazia.
In October, however, everyone from the party secretaries to the last of the parliamentarians are back in the Senate and the Chamber, somewhat heavier than before, but nevertheless happy to have been party to the writing of another chapter in the history of our democracy.
