Man at kilometre zero

La Terra vista dallo spazio, da un comodo cratere lunare, da una luna di Giove, nel suo divenire in questi ultimi cento anni, un fotogramma dopo l’altro, apparirebbe come un insieme di invasati in accelerazione.
The Earth viewed from space, from a handy crater on the moon, from one of Jupiter’s moons, as it has become in the last 100 years, one frame after another, would appear as a set of people possessed by the devil, in a state of acceleration.

Un nido di formiche impazzite in corsa in ogni direzione dopo la distruzione del formicaio.
A nest of maddened ants rushing in every direction after the destruction of their ant hill.

Un fatto incomprensibile per un gioviano, ma anche per una qualunque persona dotata di buon senso.
A fact that is incomprehensible to a being from Jupiter, but even for any old person with a modicum of common sense.

Se un tempo le domande sul nostro destino erano:
If once upon a time, the questions about our destiny were:

“Da dove veniamo? Che siamo? Dove andiamo?” (citazione dal quadro omonimo di Paul Gauguin), ora , nel tempo del Trasporto Obbligatorio di merci e esseri umani, la domanda è diventata unica:
“Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?” (quote comes from the painting of that name by Paul Gauguin ), now, at the time of Obligatory Transport of goods and human beings, the question has become the single one of:

Il tempo e il denaro impiegato per gli spostamenti sono gli investimenti principali, ma anche i più rischiosi, delle nostre vite.

Siamo come un aereo in rotta per casa di Dio con il pilota automatico manovrato da petrolieri, fabbricanti di auto e banchieri.
We are like an aeroplane en route for God’s house with the automatic pilot set by petrol moguls, automobile manufacturers and bankers.

Non si vive più per lavorare, ma per trasportare.
You no longer live in order to work, but to transport.

Il WTO ha creato un meccanismo infernale con merci che volano, navigano, viaggiano come ossesse intorno al pianeta.
The WTO has created an infernal mechanism with goods that fly, go by sea, travel like obsessed things around the planet.

Il pomodoro cinese, il cesto messicano, il maiale belga, il gamberetto scozzese saranno i nuovi astronauti quando in futuro useranno immensi aerei cargo nella stratosfera per il loro trasporto.
The Chinese tomato, the Mexican basket, the Belgian pig, the Scottish shrimp will be the new astronauts when in the future we use immense cargo aircraft to transport them in the stratosphere.

Ci deve essere un motivo profondo, superiore a quello economico, per questa biblica autodistruzione in movimento, una fornace, un moloch moderno a cui sacrifichiamo la Terra e il nostro tempo.
There must be a profound reason, superior to the economic one, for this biblical self-destruction in movement, a furnace, a modern Moloch to which we sacrifice the Earth and our time.

Un problema più da Sigmund Freud che da Adam Smith.
