Italy: EUR 600 million loan to Enel Green Power for three-year programme

Today in Rome, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Enel Green Power (EGP) signed the first EUR 440 million instalment of a EUR 600 million loan for financing the company’s three-year investment programme in Italy. Recently listed on the stock exchange, EGP is a subsidiary of the Enel group operating in the renewable and alternative energies sector.
La Banca europea per gli investimenti (BEI) ed Enel green power (EGP) hanno firmato oggi a Roma la prima tranche di 440 milioni di una operazione da 600 milioni complessivi per il finanziamento del piano triennale in Italia della società del gruppo Enel di recente quotata in Borsa e attiva nel settore delle energie rinnovabili e fonti alternative.
Specifically, the operation concerns EGP’s 2011-2013 investment programme centring on the installation of 840 MW of new renewable energy capacity through the construction of small and medium-scale wind farms and photovoltaic plants in 50 locations throughout Italy but largely concentrated in the south.
Nel dettaglio, l’operazione riguarda il programma di investimenti 2011-2013 di EGP, focalizzato sull’installazione di nuova capacità produttiva da fonti rinnovabili per 840 megawatt complessivi. Gli impianti da realizzare saranno di piccole e medie dimensioni, sia nel settore eolico sia nel fotovoltaico, e saranno localizzati in 50 aree in tutto il territorio italiano ma con una maggior concentrazione nel Sud.
The total cost of EGP’s three-year investment programme will be around EUR 1 260 million, almost half of which will be covered by the EIB loan.
Il valore complessivo degli investimenti triennali di EGP è di circa 1260 milioni, per quasi la metà coperto dal prestito BEI.
>>> The loan comes under one of the EIB’s priority areas of action: financing projects in the energy sector that contribute to increasing generating capacity from alternative sources.
Per la BEI l’operazione rientra in una delle sue aree prioritarie di intervento, rappresentata dal finanziamento di progetti nel settore energetico che contribuiscano a incrementare la capacità produttiva grazie al ricorso a fonti alternative.
Such operations serve to diversify energy sources, reducing the environmental impact and improving overall efficiency with the aim of enhancing the long-term stability of the energy supply.
Interventi che, nel complesso, diversificano le fonti di produzione migliorando l’impatto sull’ambiente e l’efficienza totale, con lo scopo di assicurare una maggiore stabilità all’offerta di energia nel tempo.
The operation will contribute to the implementation of the European Union’s 2020 Strategy, which includes the environmental goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% over the next few years.
L’operazione contribuisce alla realizzazione della Strategia 2020 dell’Unione europea, che in materia ambientale ha l’obbiettivo di ridurre nei prossimi anni del 20 per cento le emissioni di Co2.
