What is a taboo?

Un fatto di cui non si può parlare o di cui si deve dare sempre la stessa interpretazione.
A fact about which you cannot talk or about which you always have to give the same interpretation.

Il tabù esige che sia perpetuato con frasi di nessun significato che hanno, come unico obiettivo, il rafforzamento del tabù stesso.
The taboo demands that it is perpetuated with meaningless phrases that have, as their only objective, the strengthening of the taboo itself.

Infrangere un tabù è considerato ripugnante e degno di biasimo da parte della comunità.
To Infringe the taboo is considered repugnant and worthy of censure from the community.

Un tabù si alimenta di sentenze nobili come “Ricordiamoci di quando eravamo noi a varcare il mare, spesso in condizioni estreme, e teniamo a freno gli eccessi di reazioni di fronte a quanti vengono a cercare futuro in Italia” pronunciata in modo diversamente responsabile da Giorgio Napolitano.
A taboo is nourished by noble pronouncements like: Let’s remember when it was us who crossed the seas, often in really difficult conditions and let’s put a brake on the excesses of reaction in relation to those people who are coming to seek a future in Italy” pronounced in a way that is “differently responsible” by Giorgio Napolitano.

L’Italia dell’imbonitore Berlusconi, che promise casa e lavoro per gli immigrati alla televisione tunisina, ha il 20% di disoccupazione e almeno 100.000 extracomunitari disoccupati che diventeranno il doppio dopo il crollo ampiamente previsto del mercato immobiliare.
The Italy of the spieler Berlusconi who promised houses and work for immigrants on Tunisian TV, has 20% unemployment and at least 100,000 unemployed people from outside the European Community and that number will double after the widely forecast collapse of the property market.

Dove li mettiamo?
Where will we put them?

Con che risorse li gestiamo?
With which resources will we manage them?

Gli daremo una casa, un lavoro?
Will we give them a home and a job?

Li ospiterà D’Alema sul suo Ikarus o faranno compagnia ai nostri “ultimi”, pensionati e disoccupati delle periferie?
Will D’Alema make them welcome on his yacht Ikarus or will they be rubbing shoulders with our “vulnerable”, the pensioners and unemployed people of the suburbs?

Non riusciamo a fare un cazzo per gli aquilani e ci illudiamo di nutrire il pianeta?
We don’t manage to do anything for the people of L’Aquila and we are deluding ourselves that we are feeding the planet?  

Il tabù immigrazione ha effetti indesiderati, ma anche desiderati.
The immigration taboo has undesirable effects and desirable ones too.

Quelli indesiderati sono sotto gli occhi di tutti, con migliaia di miserabili lasciati a sé stessi e alle mafie.
The undesirable ones are in front of everyone’s eyes, with thousands of poor wretches left to their own resources and to the mafias.

Quelli desiderati sono una manodopera a basso costo, spesso in nero, destinata di frequente alla morte sul lavoro per il profitto dei padroncini e della Confindustria.
The desirable ones are the provision of low cost labour, often on the black market, often destined to die on the job for the profit of their little boss and that of the Confindustria.

Il trionfo della globalizzazione degli schiavi.
The triumph of the globalisation of slaves.

I rifugiati politici devono trovare sempre accoglienza, chi viene dalle zone di guerra deve trovare sempre accoglienza, gli altri sono benvenuti solo se ci sono le condizioni per ospitarli, casa e lavoro, altrimenti si fa demagogia elettorale a vantaggio non delle sinistre buoniste e cialtrone, ma della Lega.
Political refugees must always find a welcome. Those who come from war zones must always find a welcome.The others are welcome only if there are the conditions to receive them, a home and a job, otherwise there’s electoral demagogy to the benefit not of our goody-goody and good-for-nothing left wingers, but to the benefit of the Lega.

Un’invasione, perché di questo si tratta, darà alla Lega il controllo assoluto del Nord Italia.
An invasion, because it’s a matter of invasion, will give the Lega absolute control of the North of Italy.

La Lega, in questi anni, si è nutrita di immigrazione.
In recent years the Lega has fed on immigration.

Ogni immigrato irregolare, un voto in più.
Every immigrant without proper credentials means an extra vote.

La destabilizzazione degli Stati è avvenuta da sempre anche grazie al fattore immigrazione.
The destabilisation of the States has always happened even thanks to the immigration factor.

La Lega è la più interessata a mantenere in vita il tabù dell’accoglienza senza risorse giustificata dal mito dell’italiano con la valigia di cartone.
The Lega is the party with the most interest in keeping alive the taboo of the unresourced welcome, justified by the myth of the Italian with a cardboard suitcase.

Il problema della Lega, e dell’immigrazione che la alimenta, non è solo italiano, ma europeo.
The problem of the Lega and of immigration that feeds it is not just an Italian issue, but European.

Il fascismo non fu un problema solo italiano, non lo sarà la Lega.
Fascism was not just an Italian issue, and neither will the Lega be.

Ma l’Europa dorme sonni beati e, come si è visto in Libia, in realtà non esiste.

Quale unione di Stati può continuare a esistere senza una politica estera e un esercito comuni?
Which union of States can continue to exist without a foreign policy and a common army?

E quale Stato può permettersi il tabù dell’immigrazione senza disintegrarsi?
And which State can allow itself to have the immigration taboo without disintegrating?
