Bentornata Dracma
Welcome back Drachma

Un signore, chiamato Pig, sta per fallire.
A gentleman called PIG, is about to go bust.

Ha una grande idea.
He’s got a great idea.

Per sopravvivere vende i suoi debiti.
In order to survive, he’s selling his debts.

Li chiama titoli di Stato.
He calls them State Bonds.

Molti li comprano, pretendono solo un piccolo interesse e la restituzione del capitale a termine del prestito.
Many people are buying them; they only want a low rate of interest and a tiny bit of interest when the capital is returned when the loan arrangement ends.

Il Pig ha trovato il sistema per vivere sopra i suoi mezzi.
Mr PIG has found the system for living above his means.

Continua a fare debiti e a venderli.
He continues to get debts and to sell them.

>>> Il suo bilancio familiare però peggiora e chi compra i suoi titoli, per cautelarsi, chiede maggiori interessi.
His family accounts however get worse and to protect themselves, those who buy his bonds, are asking for a higher rate of interest.

Il Pig è costretto ad aumentare gli interessi.
Mr PIG is obliged to increase the interest rates.

Con il tempo la situazione diventa critica.
Over time, the situation becomes critical.

I compratori del debito diminuiscono per paura del rischio.
The number of people buying the debt goes down as they are afraid of the risk.

Il debito non è più tripla A menomeno, ma tripla B piùpiù.
The debt is no longer triple A minusminus, but a triple B plusplus.

Arriva il momento in cui il Pig non è più in grado di pagare gli interessi.
The time will come when Mr PIG is no longer able to pay the interest.

I vicini del Pig, che gli hanno prestato la maggior parte dei soldi, non hanno alcun interesse a farlo fallire.
The neighbours of Mr PIG who have lent him most of the money, have nothing to gain by making him go bust.

Se fallisce perderanno ogni credito.
If he goes bust they will lose their money.

Gli propongono perciò un prestito oneroso, lo chiamano bail out.
Thus they offer him a loan with lots of conditions, something they call a “bail out”.

Il Pig è costretto ad accettare per non fallire.
Mr PIG is obliged to accept so as not to go bust.

Quando i soldi del prestito finiscono il Pig si ritrova a pagare più interessi di prima.
When the money from the loan dries up, Mr PIG finds he’s paying more interest than before.

Chi gli ha prestato i soldi ha solo guadagnato tempo ed è ora doppiamente a rischio, può perdere sia i titoli di Stato che il prestito del bail out.
Those who have lent him money have only gained time and now they are doubly at risk, they can lose both the State bonds and the loan that is the bail out.

Il Pig, tecnicamente un fallito, è quindi in grado di fare la voce grossa come se fosse lui ad aver prestato i soldi agli altri.
Mr PIG, technically a bankrupt, is thus able to raise his voice as though it were he that had lent money to the others.

Minaccia la ristrutturazione del debito.
He threatens to restructure the debt.

In altri termini, chi ha comprato i suoi titoli a 100 vedrà il loro valore dimezzato a 50 e il Pig si libererà della metà del debito senza che nessuno possa proibirlo.
In other words, those who bought his bonds at 100 will see the value halved to 50 and Mr PIG will be freed of half the debt with no one being able to stop him doing so.

I creditori, sempre più preoccupati, non sanno che pesci pigliare.
The creditors, who are ever more worried, don’t know which way to turn.

I titoli di Stato infatti, come quelli azionari di una qualunque società quotata in Borsa, possono perdere il loro valore.
In fact, the State bonds, like those of any company quoted on the Stock Exchange, can lose their value.

I creditori hanno in comune con il Pig la moneta.
The creditors have one thing in common with Mr PIG, the currency.

Un tempo il Pig usava la Dracma, ora l’Euro.
Once upon a time, Mr PIG used the Drachma, now the Euro.

Il suo comportamento mette a rischio il buon nome della moneta dei signori virtuosi che non hanno debiti o ne hanno pochi.
His behaviour is putting at risk the good name of the currency of the virtuous gentlemen that have no debts or few debts.

L’euro non può essere compromesso.
The Euro cannot be compromised.

I vicini possono sbattere fuori dall’euro il Pig fallito e vedere sfumare per sempre parte dei loro crediti o continuare a finanziarlo con un bail out dopo l’altro.
The neighbours can throw out Mr bankrupt PIG from the Euro and see part of their credit go up in smoke for ever or continue to give him finance with one “bail out” after another.

Germania, Francia hanno circa 250 miliardi di dollari di titoli greci e l’euro, a causa del Pig, sta perdendo valore rispetto al dollaro e allo yuan.
Germany and France have about 250 billion dollars in Greek State bonds and because of Mr PIG, the Euro is losing value in relation to the dollar and the yuan.

Il Pig esce dall’euro e i suoi titoli di Stato diventano carta straccia.
Mr PIG leaves the Euro and his State bonds become waste paper.

Vorrei trovare una logica o una morale, ma non ci riesco.
I would like to find the logic and the moral of the story, but I cannot.
