The red plague
Nel 1300 in Europa arrivò la peste nera.
In 1300, the black plague reached Europe.
Fu portata da delle navi genovesi dalla Crimea alla Sicilia e da lì dilagò in tutta Europa.
It was carried by Genoan ships from the Crimea to Sicily and from there it spread out across Europe.
Morì tra un terzo e la metà della popolazione europea e l’economia fu completamente distrutta.
A third to a half of the European population died and the economy was completely destroyed.
Vasti territori coltivati furono abbandonati, i raccolti rovinati e alcune grandi città spopolate.
Large swathes of cultivated land were abandoned, the crops were ruined and some big cities became dis-inhabited.
Topi e pulci furono i portatori dell’epidemia.
Rats and fleas carried the epidemic.

The remedies brought in were purely palliative, a bit like Renzie’s 80 euro (something he has disparagingly and sarcastically defined as the “antipasto“), they included:
preghiera, penitenza, quarantena dei malati, sfollamento delle persone sane e ricerca di capri espiatori.
prayer, acts of penance, quarantining the sick, the displacement of those who were healthy, and a search for the scapegoata.

E’ epidemica come quella medioevale, spietata nel distruggere le economie nazionali più deboli, indifferente alla democrazia e allo Stato sociale.
It’s an epidemic like that in the Middle Ages, ruthless in destroying the weakest national economies, indifferent to democracy and the welfare State.
E’ giunta tra noi, silenziosa, tra la fine dello scorso secolo e l’attuale.
It’s come among us silently, from the end of last century up until now.
La sua esplosione è avvenuta con la caduta del muro di Berlino e l’avvento del Supercapitalismo e della finanza.
Its explosion came about with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the coming of Super-capitalism and finance.

In Italia il ceppo iniziale della Peste nera ha avuto una sua mutazione, la cosiddetta Peste rossa.
In Italy, the initial strain of the black plague has mutated into the so-called Red plague.
Una peste più subdola, insidiosa, che si è qualificata come cura invece che malattia.
A more devious and insidious plague that is identified as a treatment rather than as an illness.
Un farmaco miracoloso venduto da imbonitori del “lavoro, lavoro, lavoro”, ricatto che verrebbe eliminato con il reddito di cittadinanza, e del politicamente corretto.
A miraculous drug, sold by the touts of “Work, Work, Work“, blackmail that would be eliminated with the citizen’s income, and by political correctness.
I suoi effetti sono stati il deserto della produzione, la morte dell’innovazione, il cemento come idea di futuro e il massacro dell’ambiente.
Its effects have been the collapse of production, the death of innovation, the use of cement as the idea of the future, and the destruction of the environment.
Dove è passata la Peste rossa, che si indigna se viene chiamata così, in particolare i vecchi compagni che hanno bisogno di una fede, di “Credere, Obbedire e Combattere”, e più ancora di loro i nuovi affaristi rossi venduti alle multinazionali, lupi travestiti da agnelli post comunisti, figli di massoni e non di operai.

From the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Sienato the Lucchini factory in Piombino, to the Sorgenia energy company in Vado, to Ivrea’s Olivetti, to the Telecom Italia of once upon a time, to Prato’s new slavery, to Taranto’s ILVA to the TAV in the Susa Valley.
Un elenco interminabile dove il minimo comun denominatore è la crescita spacciata per progresso.
An unending list where the lowest common denominator is having growth passed off as progress.
Gli untori sono immancabilmente il PD (spesso alleato con Forza Italia o con quello che ne resta) e le cooperative rosse, quest’ultime instancabili cementificatrici del territorio con i soldi pubblici, dalla Val di Susa all’Expo di Milano.
The plague-spreaders are undoubtedly the PD (often in alliance with Forza Italia or with whatever’s left) and the red cooperatives, who are tireless cementifiers of the territory with public money, from the Susa Valley to the Expo in Milan.
Gli untori della Peste rossa sono permalosi, chi li accusa è sempre in odore di fascismo, nazista, contro l’informazione, antidemocratico e non si accorgono che così si qualificano per quello che invece sono loro: fascisti, anzi “fascistelli” che fa più figo, per dirla alla De Benedetti.
The plague-spreaders of the red plague are touchy. Anyone accusing them are always deemed to be smelling of fascism, or Nazi-ism, against the spread of Information, or anti-democratic, and they don’t realise that these are labels that in fact could be applied to themselves, “fascistelli” seems more “cool”, to use De Benedetti‘s turn of phrase.
Durante il tour elettorale “Vinciamonoi” mi recherò in raccoglimento in questi luoghi martoriati, sono stato per ora a Piombino e a Siena.
During the tour “VINCIAMONOI” electoral tour, I will go to these places that have suffered martyrdom to have a moment of reflection. So far, I’ve been to Piombino and to Siena.
