Servi si nasce, italiani si diventa
Servants are born, Italians are made

Freedom House, the organisation founded by Eleanor Roosevelt, has classified Italy as being semi-free as regards information.

Unica nazione europea occidentale.
The only one amongst all the western European Countries.

Below us on the list are North Korea, Turkmenistan, Burma, Libya and Eritrea.

But don’t despair, we can get down to their level thanks to journalists such as Belpietro, Riotta and Mimun, and politicians of the calibre of Parson’s Nose Franceschini and (Musso)Fini.

Freedom House attributes our lowly position to factors such as the psychodwarf’s control over the television networks.

Non sono d’accordo.
I don’t agree.

Freedom of expression, the freedom to write and the willingness to listen to the other man’s point of view is not dependent on some or other little man with questionable principles.

La responsabilità è degli italiani.
The responsibility lies with the Italian people.

A population that, on the whole, would probably be prepared to pay someone to sell them down the river.

Un popolo simpatico, gioviale, senza pensieri.

Overall, they are a likeable, jovial and carefree lot.

Con un udito sensibile.

A population with a very sensitive sense of hearing.

The mere sound of the truth tends to hurt their eardrums.

Con la memoria di un’ameba.

And with the memory of an amoeba.

A people that names town squares and streets after fugitives such as Bottino Craxi and is quite happy about having a corrupt professional governing the Country.

Testa d’Asfalto fa il suo mestiere.

Tar head knows his business.

He peddles what the Italian population wants to buy.

La dimenticanza è un tratto nazionale.

Forgetfulness is a national trait.

Nessuno ricorda più nulla.

No one any longer remembers anything.

Qui e ora, solo qui e ora è importante.

Here and now, all that matters is the here and now.

Information thrives on the past, but the past no longer exists in Italy.

L’Italia vive in un eterno presente.
Italy lives in a perpetual present.

Its memory is like a pristine beach, perpetually washed by the ocean’s waves.

A cynical and oftentimes servile Country that was once the light of the world.

A place where one only lives well if one is already dead inside.

A Country with no self-awareness whatsoever, which perhaps does not even exist.

Un tunnel di morti ammazzati e dimenticati.
A tunnel of murdered and forgotten bodies.

Since the end of the War, no other democratic Country has witnessed the massacre of as many magistrates, journalists, policemen, Carabinieri, members of the public and simple honest folk as Italy has.

An appalling massacre, a veritable Vietnam War in Italy, as documented in the Calendar of Lay Saints.

L’italiano non parla, non sente, non vede e odia l’informazione.

Your average Italian does not speak, does not hear, does not see and hates information.

In order to become better informed and to be in a position to judge the potential consequences, he should question everything, beginning with himself and his contribution to public life.

Non vuole sapere, perchè sapere è pericoloso.

He doesn’t want to know because knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

The average Italian is barricaded in his very own little fort of personal convictions, myths, bullshit and television news.

E’ una questione di sopravvivenza.

It is a matter of survival.

He suffers from a terminal case of democracy, living under an illusion that he is free.

The average Italian is living in a nightmare but manages to convince himself that it is a dream.

Per lui tutto è possibile, l’importante è crederci.
As far as he is concerned, anything is possible as long as you believe it.

Disinformare per Credere.
Misinform to create Belief.

Freedom House has also drawn up a list of “the 10 worst countries in which to be a blogger”

Sono: Myanmar, Iran, Siria, Cuba, Arabia Saudita, Vietnam, Tunisia, Cina, Turkmenistan e Egitto.

The Countries named are as follows: Myanmar, Iran, Syria, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Tunisia, China, Turkmenistan and Egypt.

Italy doesn’t appear on that list as yet, but it is only a matter of time before it does.

They may never give up (is it in their interest?), but neither will we.
