Giuseppe Verdi fu candidato alla Camera del primo parlamento del Regno d’Italia da Cavour (1861-1865) ed eletto come deputato nel Collegio dell’attuale Fidenza nel febbraio 1861.
Giuseppe Verdi was a candidate member of the Lower House in the first parliament of the Kingdom of Italy with Cavour (1861-1865) and he was elected as a deputy in the constituency that is now Fidenza in February 1861.
In seguito il Re lo nominerà, per motivi culturali, senatore nel 1874.

Verdi aveva diritto a viaggiare in treno per recarsi a Roma con biglietti forniti dallo Stato, ma non li usò mai e pago’ sempre di tasca sua.
