Keeping consumers safe: nearly 2500 dangerous products withdrawn from the EU market in 2014
Garantire la sicurezza dei consumatori: quasi 2.500 prodotti pericolosi ritirati dal mercato UE nel 2014

The European Commission published new figures today, showing that in 2014, nearly 2500 products, ranging from toys to motor vehicles, were either stopped before they entered the EU or removed from markets because they were dangerous for EU consumers.
I nuovi dati pubblicati oggi dalla Commissione europea mostrano che nel 2014 è stato impedito l’ingresso nell’UE, o è stata disposta la rimozione dal mercato UE, di quasi 2 500 prodotti – dai giocattoli agli autoveicoli – in quanto pericolosi per i consumatori dell’UE.

For 12 years, the European Commission and EU Member States have been working together to ensure that consumer goods placed on the European markets are safe.
Da 12 anni la Commissione e gli Stati membri collaborano per garantire che i beni di consumo immessi sul mercato europeo siano sicuri.

For this purpose, they use the Rapid Alert System for dangerous non-food products.
A tal fine, utilizzano il sistema di allarme rapido per i prodotti pericolosi non alimentari.

“Every product in Europe needs to be safe for our citizens.

Products that can cause harm have to be removed from the market as quickly as possible.

The Rapid Alert System ensures that information about dangerous non-food products withdrawn from the market and/or recalled anywhere in Europe is quickly circulated between Member States and the European Commission.
Il sistema di allarme rapido garantisce che le informazioni sui prodotti pericolosi non alimentari ritirati dal mercato e/o richiamati ovunque in Europa siano trasmesse rapidamente tra gli Stati membri e la Commissione.

In this way, appropriate follow up action (ban/stop of sales, withdrawal, recall or import rejection by Customs authorities) is taken everywhere in the EU and consumers are informed.
Ciò permette di adottare i conseguenti provvedimenti opportuni (divieto/blocco delle vendite, ritiro, richiamo o rifiuto all’importazione da parte delle autorità doganali) in tutta l’UE e di informare i consumatori.

In 2014, there were 2755 such follow-up actions registered in the system.
Nel 2014 sono stati registrati nel sistema 2 755 provvedimenti di questo tipo.

The website of the Rapid Alert System attracted nearly 2 million visits in 2014;
Sempre nel 2014 il sito web del sistema di allarme rapido è stato visitato da quasi 2 milioni di persone.

and new search tools allow consumers and businesses to better inform themselves about the detection of dangerous products and product recalls.
Grazie ai nuovi strumenti di ricerca i consumatori e le imprese possono informarsi meglio sui prodotti pericolosi individuati e richiamati.

Thirty-one countries (EU together with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) currently participate in the system.
Attualmente al sistema partecipano trentuno paesi (gli Stati membri dell’UE, l’Islanda, il Liechtenstein e la Norvegia).

Which products are posing risks?
Quali sono i prodotti che presentano rischi?

In 2014, toys (28%) and clothing, textiles and fashion items (23%) were the two main product categories for which corrective measures had to be taken.
Nel 2014 i giocattoli (28%) e gli indumenti, i prodotti tessili e gli articoli di moda (23%) sono state le due principali categorie di prodotti oggetto di provvedimenti correttivi.

Among the most frequently notified risks caused by these products were risk of injury, chemical risks and choking.
I rischi chimici, di lesioni e di soffocamento sono stati tra i rischi segnalati più frequentemente per questi prodotti.

The most common chemical risks notified in 2014 were related to products such as shoes and leather articles (e.g. Chromium VI, a skin sensitising substance), toys and childcare articles (e.g.plastic softener, which can cause fertility problems), and fashion jewellery (e.g.harmful heavy metals).
I rischi chimici più comuni segnalati nel 2014 riguardano prodotti quali scarpe e articoli in cuoio (ad esempio il cromo VI, una sostanza che irrita la pelle), i giocattoli e gli articoli di puericultura (ad esempio gli addolcitori della plastica, che possono causare problemi di fertilità), e la bigiotteria (ad esempio metalli pesanti nocivi).

China remains the number one country of origin in the alert system.
La Cina rimane il principale paese di origine dei prodotti pericolosi notificati nel sistema di allarme rapido.

Last year, 64% of the total number of notifications on dangerous products related to products coming from China, the same as in 2013.
Nel 2014, come nel 2013, il 64% del totale delle notifiche riguardava prodotti provenienti dalla Cina.

The European Commission collaborates closely with China through the “Rapid alert system-CHINA” application to ensure that the Chinese authorities tackle any product safety issues on the ground.
La Commissione collabora strettamente con la Cina attraverso il “sistema di allarme rapido – CINA” per garantire che le autorità cinesi affrontino tutte le questioni di sicurezza dei prodotti in loco.

This represents an increase of 3% compared to last year, which means consumers are better protected as more dangerous products were stopped.

When Member States detect a product that is unsafe, they will post a notification in the rapid alert system.
Quando uno Stato membro individua un prodotto che non è sicuro, inserisce una notifica nel sistema di allarme rapido.

All the other countries will search for the respective product on their markets and those countries that find it will indicate which follow-up action (ban/stop of sales, withdrawal, recall or import rejection by Customs authorities) they have taken.
Tutti gli altri paesi effettuano una ricerca del prodotto in questione nei rispettivi mercati e se lo individuano indicano i provvedimenti conseguenti (divieto/blocco delle vendite, ritiro, richiamo o rifiuto all’importazione da parte delle autorità doganali) che hanno adottato.
