In a historic turn of events, Kim Jong II the leader of North Korea and Roh Moo-hyun the leader of South Korea have signed the Declaration of Peace and Prosperity, an 8-page declaration of “permanent peace,” just two days after the two leaders met for a rare summit which began on October 2.
Con una svolta storica, il leader della Corea del Nord Kim Jong II ed il leader della Corea del Sud Roh Moo-hyun hanno sottoscritto la Dichiarazione di Pace e Prosperità, una dichiarazione di “pace permanente” in otto pagine, a solo due giorni di distanza dall’eccezionale incontro al vertice tra i due leader, iniziato il 2 ottobre.
“The South and North share the view that they should end the current armistice system and build up a permanent peace system,” said the pact which also stated that they “agreed to closely co-operate to end military hostility and ensure peace and easing of tension on the Korean peninsula.”
“Sia il Sud che il Nord ritengono che l’attuale regime di armistizio debba essere abolito in modo da costruire un regime di pace permanente,” cosi dichiara il trattato che inoltre afferma che entrambi hanno “accettato di lavorare in stretta collaborazione per porre fine all’ostilità militare e assicurare la pace ed una riduzione della tensione in tutta la penisola coreana.”

The pact includes cross-border freight transportation which was banned for over 50 years, creates a joint operation for disputed areas of the ocean and also calls for a new armistice.

The deal invites all “concerned” nations, particularly the United States and China, to the Korean Peninsula to observe the end to the war of 1950-1953, otherwise known as the Korean War.
Il trattato invita tutte le nazioni coinvolte nella trattativa, ed in particolare gli Stati Uniti e la Cina, a recarsi nella penisola coreana per testimoniare della fine della guerra 1950-1953, nota anche come guerra di Corea.
The pact also states that the two nations will regularly meet for summits.

Both the leaders signed the pact and then shook hands.

They then proposed a toast and drank to the deal in a celebration. This is only the second time in history that the two leaders met face to face.
