Elected, free and beautiful

Credo che sia venuto il momento di mettere in discussione il senso delle cariche elettive.
I think the time has come to start a discussion about the meaning of elected positions.

Tutte, nessuna esclusa.
All of them, without exception.

Dal deputato al consigliere regionale.
From a Deputy in Parliament to a regional councillor.

Chi è eletto deve fare il mestiere per cui è stato votato.
Anyone who is elected has to do the job that he was elected to do.

Deve svolgere A TEMPO PIENO il suo incarico fino alla fine del mandato.
He has to perform his role FULL TIME until the end of the term of office.

>>> Se manca una legge, allora va introdotta.
If a law is missing, then it has to be brought in.

Questo vale per il deputato, il senatore, il governatore, l’assessore, l’eurodeputato.
This goes for the deputy, the senator, the governor, the town councillor and the euro-parliamentarian.

Se ti candidi e vieni eletto per fare l’eurodeputato come de Magistris non puoi candidarti a sindaco di Napoli.
If you put yourself forward as a candidate to be a euro-parliamentarian like de Magistris you cannot put yourself forward as a candidate to be the mayor of Naples.

Se sei stato eletto (si fa per dire) deputato come Fassino, non puoi candidarti a sindaco di Torino.
If you have been elected (which is one way of putting it) as a deputy like Fassino, you cannot put yourself forward as a candidate to be mayor of Turin.

Se sei assessore di una Regione non puoi diventare deputato, magari per non finire in galera.
If you are a regional councillor you cannot become a deputy in parliament, perhaps to not end up in prison.

E’ una grande presa per i fondelli degli elettori.
It’s a massive way of taking the voters for a ride.

Un gioco delle poltrone che nulla ha a che vedere con la volontà espressa dai cittadini.
A game of armchairs that has nothing to do with the will expressed by the citizens.

Se ti eleggo per fare il parlamentare, quello devi fare.
If I elect you to be a parliamentarian, that’s what you have to do.

Nessuno ti autorizza ad abbandonare il posto di lavoro di dipendente profumatamente retribuito.
No one authorises you to abandon your place of work as an extremely well paid employee.

Quando scadrà il mandato, allora potrai candidarti.
When your term of office finishes, then you can offer yourself as a candidate.

Prima devi svolgere il lavoro che ti è stato assegnato informando puntualmente sugli obiettivi raggiunti.
Before that, you have to carry out the work assigned to you keeping people informed on the details of the objectives achieved.

I politici sono novelli Tarzan, si lanciano di liana in liana, di posizione in posizione.
Politicians are newbie Tarzans, they swing from branch to branch, from one position to another.

Non hanno un incarico, ma un “posto” di cui dispongono a loro piacimento senza rispondere a nessuno.
They don’t have a job to do but a “position” that they can dispose of at their pleasure without answering to anyone.

Un discorso analogo va fatto per le cariche istituzionali.
A similar discussion can be done for institutional positions.

Chi diventa ministro deve dimettersi da ogni incarico di partito.
Anyone who becomes a Minister has to resign from every job in the party.

Un ministro è super partes, risponde alla Nazione.
A Minister is “super partes” and answers to the Nation.

O fai il ministro o fai il leader di partito.
He is either a Minister or the leader of a party.

E questo vale anche per il presidente della Camera.
And this is valid even for the President of the Lower House.

I ministeri sono diventati sedi di partito distaccate a Roma.
The Ministries have become separate party headquarters in Rome.

Luoghi in cui si incontrano i referenti del partito, si discutono le strategie elettorali, un suk dei voti con consulenti di area che girano per i corridoi.
Places where the key party figures meet up , discuss election strategy, a souk of votes with the relevant consultants going round the corridors.

Potrebbero mettere la bandiera del partito del ministro sul tetto e non cambierebbe nulla.
They could put up the banner of the Minister’s party on the roof and nothing would change.

Un segretario di partito che fa il ministro?
A party secretary as Minister?

Se il ministro (e segretario di partito) Boss(ol)i deve proporre una legge a chi fa riferimento?
If the Minister (and party secretary) Boss(ol)i has to put forward a law, to whom does he answer?

Alla Lega o all’Italia?
To the Lega or to Italy?

Ci sono due/tremila persone tra Parlamento, Regioni, Province, Comuni e UE che si fanno i cazzi loro.
There are two/three thousand people in Parliament, the regions, provinces, towns and the EU who do their own thing.

Passano da un incarico all’altro, rispondono alle logiche personali o di partito e non dello Stato.
They pass from one position to another, they answer to their own personal logic or that of the party and not that of the State.

Oggi qui, domani là, io vado e vivo così, senza pene, domani dove sarò, qui e là, io amo la libertà e nessuno me la toglierà mai”, cantava Patty Pravo.
“Today here, tomorrow there, I go and I live like that, without a member, tomorrow where I will be, here and there, I love liberty and no one will ever take it away from me”, as Patty Pravo sang.

E’ ora di toglierla questa libertà che nessuno gli ha mai dato.
Now’s the time to take this liberty away from her, this liberty that no one has ever given her.

Loro non si arrenderanno mai (ma gli conviene?).
They will never give up (but is it in their interests?).

Noi neppure.
Neither will we.
