C’erano una volta i parlamenti, i governi federali e nazionali, i pubblici dibattiti sul futuro delle nazioni.
Once upon a time there were parliaments, federal and national governments, and public debates about the future of the nations.

C’era persino l’ONU che non funzionava un granché, ma era pur sempre uno straccio di organo rappresentativo.
There was even the UN that didn’t work very well, but it was still a bit of a representative body.

Tutto questo è memoria, cenere di democratica parvenza, polvere del passato.
All this is memory, ashes of democratic shadow, dust from the past.

Non conta più nulla.
It no longer counts for anything.

Altri organismi li hanno superati con sigle misteriose per la gente: WTO, BCE, FMI.
Other organisms have superseded them with acronyms that people find mysterious: WTO, ECB, IMF.

Il nostro destino è nelle loro mani, ma non sappiamo chi li dirige, chi ne decide gli obiettivi.
Our destiny is in their hands, but we don’t know who directs them, or who decides their objectives.

Nessuno ne ha eletto i rappresentanti, ma da loro dipendono le nostre vite.
No one has elected the representatives there, but our lives depend on them.

La BCE, una banca, può inviare, senza che nessuno più si scandalizzi, una lettera a un governo in carica dettandogli le condizioni e minacciandolo di licenziamento.
The ECB, a bank, can send a letter to a government in power giving the details of the conditions and threatening to sack them and no one is scandalised by that.

The WTO can decide to break up the world with the free economy, a parody of free love of the children of the flowers transformed into children of the banks.

Production can be entrusted by the multinationals to Indian children or Chinese workers with no Trade Union rights.

Trasferita da Stati con norme severissime sull’ambiente, alle quali le aziende devono attenersi pena la loro chiusura, a Stati dove tutto è permesso.
Transferred from States with really severe regulations regarding the environment, to which companies have to conform or face closure, to States where everything is allowed.

Di che competizione globale stiamo parlando?
What global competition are we talking about?

La competizione esiste a parità di regole, di diritti.
Competition exists where there’s parity of regulations and of rights.

E’ più corretto parlare di sfruttamento globale, di abbassamento generale dei salari nelle nazioni industrializzate, della perdita di conquiste sociali e sindacali frutto delle lotte delle generazioni precedenti.
It’s more correct to talk about global exploitation, of the general lowering of wages in the industrialised nations, of the loss of social and Trade Union gains that are the fruit of the battles of the preceding generations.

Chi ha deciso tutto questo?
Who has decided all this?

In whose name?

Il FMI internazionale ricorda gli avvoltoi.
The International Monetary Fund puts one in mind of the vultures.

I suoi rappresentanti arrivano quando uno Stato sta tirando le cuoia per proteggere interessi internazionali.
Its representatives arrive when a State is in its death throes to protect international interests.

La Grecia non può andare subito in default.
Greece cannot go into default straight away.

Se fallisse, potrebbero fallire le banche francesi che detengono il suo debito.
If it were to fail, the French banks that have its debts, could fail.

Quindi prima deve vendere il suo patrimonio nazionale e salvare le banche.
Thus first, it has to sell off its national patrimony and save the banks.

Il mondo è bancocentrico e di politica sociale non si discute nemmeno più.
The world is bank-centric and there’s no longer even any discussion of social policy.

La UE è stata sostituita dalla BCE, l’ONU dal WTO, i governi dal FMI.
The EU has been substituted by the ECB, the UN by the WTO, the governments by the IMF.

Le stesse guerre hanno ormai solo finalità economiche, non più ideologiche, religiose o territoriali come ha dimostrato la guerra in Libia.
The wars themselves have only economic ends, no longer ideological, religious or territorial ones as has been demonstrated by the war in Libya.

Le banche finanziano le guerre che a loro volta finanziano le banche.
The banks finance the wars that in turn finance the banks.

In albergo ti chiedono la carta di credito al posto della carta di identità.
In the hotel they ask you for your credit card instead of your ID card.

Alla nascita ti attribuiscono il codice fiscale, insieme alla quota personale di debito pubblico, prima di assegnarti un pediatra.
At birth they allocate you a fiscal code, together with your personal quota of public debt, before assigning you a paediatrician.

I politici sono i camerieri dei banchieri e noi paghiamo il conto.
The politicians are the waiters of the bankers and we pay the bill.
