Beppe Grillo’s end of year address

Le uniche certezze che abbiamo sul 2013 è che l’economia sarà peggiore del 2012 e che i responsabili del fallimento politico ed economico dell’Italia non se ne vorranno andare.
The only certainty that we have for 2013 is that the economy will be even worse than it was in 2012 and that those responsible for Italy’s political and economic collapse will not want to leave.

Alle prossime elezioni si ripresenterà tutto il ciarpame della Seconda Repubblica, da Berlusconi, a Bersani, da Fini a Casini.
The whole garbage heap, from Berlusconi through to Bersani, Fini and Casini will undoubtedly be back for more.

Le elezioni anticipate sono state decise a tavolino per escludere il M5S, non solo per una questione di numero di firme, ma per il pochissimo tempo a disposizione.
The decision to hold early elections was taken around the table explicitly in order to exclude the M5S, not only because of the whole issue of required signatures but also because it leaves very little time available for preparation.

Se non ci fossimo preparati per tempo, dalla scorsa estate, saremmo già fuori dal Parlamento.
If we hadn’t prepared ourselves in good time, since last summer to be precise, we would already be effectively excluded from Parliament.

Per la firma sulle liste elettorali bisogna disporre di due delegati ufficiali per ogni circoscrizione elettorale, avere le liste con tutti i nomi complete per ogni collegio elettorale, predisporre i moduli senza sbagliare una sola parola e i moduli sono diversi per Senato e Camera, per le Regioni a Statuto Speciale e per le Circoscrizioni estere.
In order to get people onto the ballot forms you need to have two official delegates for each voting constituency, you need to have your election lists ready, containing all the names of the nominees for each constituency and without any mistakes whatsoever, and note that the forms are different for the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the Special Statute Regions and the foreign constituencies.

Then you need to have a public official present at each desk to scrutinise the signatures and then take them to the municipal offices of each individual signatory to confirm their residence in that municipal district.

Once all that has been done, the delegates must then submit the nomination lists to the specific Courts within whose jurisdiction the constituency falls.

Quando è avvenuto il colpettino di Stato con Rigor Montis che si è sfiduciato da solo senza sentire neppure l’obbligo di farlo di fronte alle Camere, il tempo a nostra disposizione era così limitato che solo alle 4 di notte siamo riusciti ad inviare i moduli ai delegati.
When the mini-coup took place, in which Rigor Montis tabled a motion of no confidence against himself without even feeling the need to do so in the Chambers, the time available to us was so short that we only managed to send off the forms to the delegates by 4 in the morning.

Era sabato mattina di metà dicembre, e nel pomeriggio abbiamo iniziato a raccogliere le firme.
That was a Saturday morning in mid-December and we began to gather signatures that very same afternoon.

Io ho fatto due massacro tour in due fine settimana, uno al centro nord e l’altro al Sud con il camper, ho tenuto trenta comizi in quattro giorni.
I undertook two exhausting tours over two weekends in a camper van, one to central and northern Italy and the other to southern Italy, where I held thirty meetings in just four days.

Dopo, solo dopo, le firme necessarie sono state abbassate dal Governo a un quarto per favorire la lista Monti e la data delle elezioni è stata spostata di una settimana.
Only later did the government lower the number of signatures required to one quarter of the original number, just to favour Monti’s election lists, and the election date was delayed by one week.

Giochiamo contro dei bari della democrazia.
It’s like playing against the card-sharps of democracy.

In questa folle raccolta dalla quale sono esentati tutti i partiti presenti in Parlamento e chi si accorpa con loro, ho conosciuto una nuova realtà: i consolati italiani all’estero.
In this crazy signature gathering exercise, from which the existing Parliamentary parties and their hangers-on are of course exempted, I got to know something about another world, namely the Italian Consulates abroad.

E’ in atto un boicottaggio per impedirci di raccogliere le firme dei nostri emigrati.
They are actively boycotting us so as to prevent us from gathering signatures from our Italian emigrants.

Quando si presentano trovano quasi sempre il consolato chiuso, se telefonano dicono che non sono competenti.
When these guys arrive at the consulates, they almost always find the offices closed and if they phone the offices they are told that it’s not within the consulate’s competence.

Nessuno risponde al citofono.
No one answers the intercom.

Questo è uno scandalo di cui chiederemo comunque conto e valuteremo gli estremi di cause legali contro alcuni consolati.
This is an absolute scandal for which someone will have to answer and we will be looking into instituting legal action against a number of the consulates.

Faccio un appello in particolare alle città con più italiani delle quattro circoscrizioni: Londra, New York, Buenos Aires e Sidney.
I am launching an appeal particularly to those cities with the highest number of Italians in each of the four constituencies, namely London, New York, Buenos Aires and Sydney.

Andate a firmare.
Go and sign.

Ai loro parenti e amici in Italia chiedo di avvertirli.
To their relatives and friends in Italy I say “Tell them what’s happening”.

In questo percorso a ostacoli per impedire al M5S di entrare in Parlamento si gioca il futuro della democrazia in Italia.
The future of democracy in Italy is at stake in this obstacle course designed to prevent the M5S from getting into Parliament.

Se ci impediranno con la burocrazia o con altri mezzi di partecipare alle elezioni, ci aspetta un nuovo fascismo, un’Alba Dorata all’italiana.
If they succeed in keeping us out by means of bureaucracy or some other means then we are headed for a new kind of fascism, an Italian-style Alba Dorata (literally Golden Dawn).

Senza un cambiamento democratico l’Italia è condannata.
Without some sort of democratic change, Italy is doomed.

Questi se ne devono andare.
These guys must get out.

Se non sarà il M5S con le buone, arriverà qualcuno che lo farà con le cattive.
If not in orderly fashion through the M5S then there will be someone else who will use far more unpleasant means.

Il M5S in fondo è la loro assicurazione sulla vita.
In reality, the M5S is like a life insurance policy for these guys.

Questa classe politica ha distrutto il Paese e ora ha la faccia di bronzo di proporsi come la cura.
This political class has destroyed this Country and they now have the gall to make out that they are the cure.

Gente come Monti, l’ex consulente di Cirino Pomicino allora ministro del Tesoro fece esplodere il debito pubblico, come Bersani che ha governato con il centro sinistra per dieci degli ultimi vent’anni il Paese, come il mentitore professionale Berlusconi, come Napolitano che denuncia i guasti della politica della quale vive dagli anni 50.
People like Monti, former consultant to Cirino Pomicino, the then Minister of Finance that made our public debt explode, like Bersani, who governed this Country as part of the centre-left for ten of the last twenty years, like Berlusconi the professional liar or like Napolitano, who complains about the problems of these politics from which he has made an excellent living since way back in the ‘50s.

Se ne devono andare con i loro giornali, i loro servi delle televisioni.
They must get out and take their newspapers and their television lackeys with them.

L’anticipo elezioni consente a Napolitano di scegliere il prossimo presidente del Consiglio, lui vuole Monti e Monti sarà.
The early elections enable Napolitano to choose the next Prime Minister. He wants Monti and Monti it will be.

E’ un altro colpetto di Stato.
Yet another little government coup.

Se le elezioni si fossero tenute ad aprile il prossimo presidente del Consiglio sarebbe stato nominato dal nuovo presidente della Repubblica eletto con i voti del M5S e allora addio Monti, Merkel, BCE.
If the elections had been held in April then the next Prime Minister would have been appointed by a new State President, who would have been elected with the M5Ss votes and that would have spelled the end of Monti, Merkel and the European Central Bank.

Dopo più di un anno Rigor Montis ha tradito ogni promessa, il debito pubblico è aumentato di 100 miliardi nonostante nuove tasse, disoccupazione mai vista dal dopoguerra, prodotto industriale in picchiata.
More than one year on, Rigor Montis has broken all his promises, the public debt has risen by 100 billion notwithstanding a bunch of new taxes, unemployment has risen to the highest levels since the Second
World War and Italy’s industrial production has nosedived.

Monti ha fallito e deve togliere il disturbo insieme ai suoi sostenitori di Pdl, Pd e Udc che hanno votato qualunque infamia nel 2012.
Monti has failed and must get the hell out of here together with his supporters, namely the Pdl, the Pd and the Udc, all of which voted in favour of all the abominations of 2012.

L’Italia deve riprendersi la sua sovranità, il suo futuro.
Italy must take back its sovereignty and its future.

Ha bisogno di cittadini onesti e capaci e non corrompibili dal vecchio Sistema.
What this Country needs are citizens who are honest, capable and that cannot be bought by the old System.

Nel 2012 il M5S è diventato il secondo gruppo politico, ha fatto eleggere sindaci giovani e capaci, come a Parma, è diventato il primo movimento politico in Sicilia.
In 2012 the M5S became the second strongest political grouping and censure the election of young and able councillors, like in Parma, and the Movement became the biggest political force in Sicily.

Se il M5S andrà al Governo proporrà il reddito di cittadinanza come avviene nei Paesi più civili.
