Italy forty-ninth economy of the world
L’Italia era una volta la quinta potenza economica del mondo, alcuni maligni dicevano la sesta ponendo al quinto posto la Gran Bretagna.
Italy was once the fifth economic power in the world. Some malicious people said it came sixth and they put Great Britain in fifth place.
Tempi lontani.
That was a long time ago.
Nel 2014 siamo invitati agli incontri delle maggiori economie del mondo come si inviterebbe il nobile decaduto, il parente povero con i vestiti lisi e l’alito pesante.
In 2014 we are invited to the meetings of the major economic powers just as they would invite the impoverished nobleman, the poor relation with tatty clothes and smelly breath.
A Davos, in questi giorni si tiene l’annuale World Economic Forum, tra gli atti del convegno sono citate le prime 10 economie europee per competitività.
Right now, in Davos, there’s the annual World Economic forum, and one of the official documents is the list of the top 10 most competitive European economies.

Nel tabellone all’interno del rapporto annuale “The Global Competitiveness Index 2013-2014”, tra le 140 nazioni siamo ancora nella prima colonna, ma verso il fondo.
In the chart given in the annual report called “The Global Competitiveness Index 2013-2014”, out of the 140 countries, we are still in the first column, but towards the bottom of it.
Gli indici misurati sono, tra gli altri, lo sviluppo tecnologico, l’efficienza delle istituzioni, l’istruzione, il mercato del lavoro, l’innovazione, la situazione finanziaria.
The parameters used include technological development, the efficiency of the institutions, education, the labour market, innovation, and the financial situation.
Stiamo scivolando verso il fondo classifica, come una squadra di calcio blasonata che rischia la serie B con l’indifferenza che le viene dal suo passato.

L’Italia deve fare i conti con sé stessa, è uno Stato ormai marginale dal punto di vista economico con una classe politica disinteressata a mettere mano ai problemi strutturali del Paese, ma molto interessata a perpetuare la sua permanenza sulle poltrone.
