The European Commission announces the winners of the writing competition: “What does an enlarged EU mean to you?”
La Commissione europea annuncia i vincitori del concorso:“Cosa significa per voi un’UE allargata?”
Jan Getek, 15, from Poland, and Anastasia Liopetriti, 21, from Cyprus, are the winners of the writing competition entitled “What does an enlarged EU mean to you?”, organised by the European Commission.
Jan Getek, 15 anni, dalla Polonia, e Anastasia Liopetriti, 21 anni, da Cipro, sono i vincitori del concorso intitolato “Cosa significa per voi un’UE?”, organizzato dalla Commissione europea.
The contest marked the 10th anniversary of the 2004 round of EU enlargement, with the accession of ten countries to the EU.
Il concorso celebrava il decimo anniversario dell’allargamento del 2004, in cui 10 paesi hanno aderito all’UE.
Today, the EU perspective is open to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.
Oggi, la prospettiva di adesione all’UE è aperta ad Albania, Bosnia-Erzegovina, ex Repubblica jugoslava di Macedonia, Islanda, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia e Turchia.
Young people aged 15–25 from across Europe were asked to submit an article or blog on what today’s European Union of 28 Member States can learn from its past to help improve its future, as well as to reflect on what an enlarged EU means to them.
I giovani tra i 15 e i 25 anni, provenienti da tutta l’UE, sono stati invitati a presentare un articolo o un blog su ciò che oggi l’Unione europea a 28 Stati membri può imparare dal passato per migliorare il futuro, nonché riflessioni su cosa significa per loro un’UE allargata.
Over 450 entries were sent from the 28 EU Member States and from 7 candidates and potential candidates in Southeast Europe.
Sono pervenuti oltre 450 contributi dai 28 Stati membri dell’UE e dai 7 paesi candidati e potenziali candidati dell’Europa sudorientale.
>>> The participants were judged, inter alia, on the clarity of their argumentation, the quality of their writing and on the originality of their ideas.
I partecipanti sono stati valutati, fra l’altro, sulla chiarezza delle argomentazioni, la qualità degli scritti e l’originalità delle idee.
Juries from each participating country selected one entry from each age group (15–18 year olds and 19–25 year olds) for further evaluation by a European jury, consisting of:
Le giurie di ciascun paese partecipante hanno selezionato un tema per ciascuna fascia di età (15-18 e 19-25 anni) ai fini di un’ulteriore valutazione da parte di una giuria europea composta da:

This entry was chosen by the jury members for its excellent balance of personal experience of EU enlargement, backed up with strong arguments and facts and supported by a high standard of writing.
Questo tema è stato scelto dai membri della giuria per l’ottima esposizione dell’esperienza personale dell’allargamento dell’UE, suffragata da argomentazioni e fatti validi nonché da un registro di scrittura elevato.
The jury was pleased to note the overall high standard and maturity of entries for this age category.
La giuria ha osservato con soddisfazione il livello generalmente alto e la maturità degli scritti di questa fascia di età.

The jury decided that this was a well-written piece which captured the EU’s principles and values and was embellished with personal points such as a bus journey.
La giuria ritiene che questo tema ben scritto abbia saputo rendere i principi e i valori dell’UE, oltre ad essere stato arricchito da spunti personali come un viaggio in pullman.
In particular, the jury enjoyed the description of borders, both imagined borders of the mind and physical borders, and of the process of breaking them down, and felt that the author illustrated this well.
In particolare, la giuria ha apprezzato la descrizione delle frontiere, sia quelle immaginarie, sia quelle fisiche, nonché il loro abbattimento: la giuria ritiene che l’autrice abbia ben illustrato questo punto.

The winners will be travelling to Brussels to receive their prizes and will have the chance to see the work of the European Commission and visit other EU institutions over the course of a two-day visit.
I vincitori saranno invitati a Bruxelles per ritirare i premi e avranno l’opportunità di osservare il lavoro della Commissione europea, oltre a visitare altre istituzioni dell’UE nel corso di una visita di due giorni.
