Juncker Commission takes office
Al via la Commissione Juncker

Today the Juncker Commission is officially starting its term of office that will run until 31 October 2019.
Oggi inizia ufficialmente il mandato della Commissione Juncker, che rimarrà in carica fino al 31 ottobre 2019.

On this occasion, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said:
In questa occasione il Presidente della Commissione europea Jean-Claude Juncker ha dichiarato:

“Thanks to the democratic support of European citizens, the European Parliament and Heads of State and government, today the new Commission takes office.
“La nuova Commissione si insedia oggi grazie al sostegno democratico dei cittadini europei, del Parlamento europeo e dei capi di Stato e di governo.

Now it’s time to roll up the sleeves and get down to work. Europe’s challenges cannot wait.
Ora dobbiamo rimboccarci le maniche e metterci al lavoro, le sfide dell’Europa non possono aspettare.

As of today, my team and I will work hard to deliver Europe the new start we have promised.
Già da oggi lavoreremo duro con la mia Commissione per offrire all’Europa il nuovo inizio che le abbiamo promesso.

“Europe’s challenges cannot wait” – this is the motto of the day:
“Le sfide dell’Europa non possono aspettare”, è questo il nuovo motto.

It is the first time that a European Commission takes office on time since the first European Parliament hearings were introduced in 1994 under the Jacques Delors Commission.
È la prima volta che una Commissione europea si insedia nei tempi da quando, nel 1994, la Commissione Delors ha introdotto le audizioni dinanzi al Parlamento europeo.

The beginning of the mandate of the Juncker Commission marks the end of a long process leading up to the new European Commission.
L’avvio del mandato della Commissione Juncker conclude il lungo processo che ha portato alla sua costituzione.

Following the first pan-European election campaign, Jean-Claude Juncker was proposed on 27 June by the European Council to the European Parliament as candidate for Commission President.
Il 27 giugno, al termine della prima campagna elettorale paneuropea, il Consiglio europeo ha proposto al Parlamento europeo la candidatura di Jean-Claude Juncker a Presidente della Commissione.

The European Council thereby took the result of the elections to the European Parliament into account, as required under Article 17(7) of the Treaty on European Union.
Il Consiglio europeo ha così tenuto conto del risultato delle elezioni del Parlamento europeo, conformemente all’articolo 17, paragrafo 7, del trattato sull’Unione europea.

On 15 July, Mr Juncker was then elected by the European Parliament by a strong majority of 422 votes (he needed a majority of 376 votes), on the basis of the Political Guidelines he presented to the Parliament.
Il 15 luglio Jean-Claude Juncker è stato eletto dal Parlamento europeo con una forte maggioranza di voti (422 contro i 376 necessari) in base agli orientamenti politici che aveva presentato al Parlamento.

Following this election and an interview process of candidates for Commissioners, the President-elect selected the other members of the Commission.
In esito alla sua elezione e all’audizione dei candidati alla carica di Commissario, il Presidente eletto ha selezionato gli altri membri della Commissione.

The final list of Commissioners-designate was then agreed between the President-elect and the Council on 5 September.

President-elect Juncker presented his team and the allocation of portfolios on 10 September which was followed by individual hearings of the Commissioners-designate in front of the relevant European Parliament committees.

On this basis, and following the adjustments Juncker made to his team to address issues raised in the European Parliament hearings (see IP/14/1163 and SPEECH/14/705), the European Parliament gave its consent to the entire College with 426 votes in favour (out of 699 votes).
Su queste basi, e dopo gli adeguamenti operati da Jean-Claude Juncker per risolvere le questioni sollevate durante le audizioni (cfr. IP/14/1163 e SPEECH/14/705), il Parlamento europeo ha approvato l’intero Collegio con 426 voti a favore (su 699).

The European Council then appointed the European Commission at its Summit of 23 October.
