“Proprio nella settimana in cui la cronaca giudiziaria ci racconta di una Roma travolta dalla corruzione e dall’intreccio tra mafia e politica, in Senato i partiti di destra e sinistra, di maggioranza e opposizione, hanno votato insieme per salvare i loro colleghi Antonio Azzollini, senatore di Nuovo Centro Destra, e Antonino Papania, ex senatore del Pd, indagati rispettivamente per associazione a delinquere e corruzione.
“In the very same week when the stories about criminal investigations are talking about Rome being overwhelmed by corruption and the intertwining of the mafia and the world of politics, in the Senate, the right wing and left wing parties, those in the government and those in opposition, have all voted to save their colleagues Antonio Azzollini, senator of the “Nuovo Centrodestra” {New Centre-Right}, and Antonino Papania, a former PD senator, under investigation for criminal conspiracy and corruption, respectively.
Mentre il MoVimento 5 Stelle si è opposto e ha chiesto che la magistratura potesse fare il suo, non un sussulto di buon senso o di dignità è arrivato dal Pd o dalla Lega, nonostante Renzi e Salvini da giorni vadano in tv a dire di voler combattere la corruzione.
While the 5 Star MoVement opposed the motion and asked that the magistracy be allowed to get on with its job, there was not even a whisper of common sense or of dignity coming from the PD or the Lega, in spite of Renzi and Salvini having spent days talking on TV saying that they wanted to fight corruption.
Il voto di ieri in Senato marca, nel caso ce ne fosse ancora bisogno, la differenza tra NOI e LORO.
If there was ever any need to have the evidence, yesterday’s vote in the Senate is an indication of the difference between us and them.

Yesterday in the Senate, the PD, Lega Nord, Forza Italia, and the NCD all said “no” to the use of intercepted telephone records in the criminal proceedings involving the senator and the president of the Budget Committee, Antonio Azzollini (NCD).
Azzollini è indagato per truffa allo Stato, associazione a delinquere, abuso d’ufficio, frode in pubbliche forniture, attentato alla sicurezza dei trasporti marittimi e reati ambientali nell’inchiesta che lo vede coinvolto nello scandalo sul porto di Molfetta.
Azzollini is under investigation for defrauding the State, criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, fraud in public procurement, attacks against the security of maritime transport and environmental crimes. This is part of the investigations into the scandal at the port of Molfetta.
Nell’ottobre 2013 il MoVimento 5 Stelle aveva chiesto le sue dimissioni.

Nello stesso giorno, a pochi minuti di distanza, i partiti salvano anche l’ex senatore del Pd Antonino Papania.

L’esponente siciliano era già stato definito “impresentabile” dalla commissione di garanzia del Pd, al punto da non essere ricandidato alle ultime elezioni politiche.

La Giunta per le Autorizzazioni aveva dato parere favorevole all’utilizzo delle intercettazioni telefoniche, richiesta formulata dal giudice di Palermo.

Nonostante ciò, una volta in Aula, Pd, Lega, Pdl e Ncd votano per il ritorno della questione in Giunta.

La vicenda giudiziaria per la quale i magistrati palermitani hanno chiesto al Senato di poter utilizzare conversazioni e sms di Papania riguarda un’indagine per corruzione che interessa la Aimeri Ambiente.
The Palermo magistrates asked the Senate for their permission to use the records of Papania’s telephone conversations and SMS text messages in relation to an investigation into corruption relating to the waste recycling company called “Aimeri Ambiente”.
L’Aimeri Ambiente, con sede in Lussemburgo, appartiene ai fratelli Pizzimbone e ha avuto negli anni diverse traversie giudiziarie, tra condanne, assoluzioni, l’indagine della Dia di Catania.
The company Aimeri Ambiente, is based in Luxembourg and belongs to the brothers Pizzimbone. Over the years, it has had a number of encounters with the law, including criminal convictions, not guilty verdicts and it has been investigated by Catania’s anti-mafia unit
I Pizzimbone sono legati politicamente a Marcello Dell’Utri e uno dei fratelli è stato arrestato lo scorso marzo.
The brothers Pizzimbone are connected politically to Marcello Dell’Utri and one of the brothers was arrested last March.
Come senatore, all’epoca dei fatti, Papania avrebbe coperto irregolarità negli appalti, pilotato i contratti e bloccato i controlli che riguardavano l’azienda di gestione dei rifiuti in diversi comuni siciliani, al fine di evitarle una multa a titolo di penale di oltre 500 mila euro.
Papania was a senator at the time and it is alleged that he covered up irregularities in contracts and drove through contracts and blocked any checking in relation to the company that was managing the handling of waste disposal in a number of towns in Sicily, with the intention of saving the company from having to pay a fine of 500 thousand Euro due to criminal activities.

The M5S spokesperson in Sicily, Vincenzo Maurizio Santangelo explained: “According to the investigations carried out by the Office of the Prosecutors in Trapani who looked into the local elections in Alcamo in May 2012, it has emerged that Papania was involved and facts have come to light indicating how the practice of having an “exchange of vote” is anything but defeated.
