“La speranza è una trappola” diceva Mario Monicelli in una delle sue ultime interviste prima di togliersi la vita gettandosi nel vuoto dalla finestra della stanza al quinto piano dell’Ospedale San Giovanni a Roma, dove era ricoverato.
“Hope is a trap” are the words used by Mario Monicelli in one of the the last interviews he gave before taking his own life – throwing himself out into the void from the window of the fifth floor room at the San Giovanni Hospital in Rome, where he was a patient.
“La speranza è una trappola, è una cosa infame inventata da chi comanda.”
Hope is a trap. It’s something vile invented by those in command.“
I pensionati sperano che non gli venga tolta la pensione, gli occupati il lavoro, coloro che vivono della mangiatoia pubblica (che sono milioni) che il Sistema tenga il più a lungo possibile, i mafiosi e i corrotti che la pacchia continui.
Pensioners hope their pensions won’t be taken away from them. People with jobs hope their jobs won’t be taken away from them. Those who live on the public feeding troughs (and there are millions of them) hope that the System will hold up as long as possible.The mafia and the corrupt people hope that the easy life keeps going.
Tutti sperano nello status quo.
Everyone’s hoping in the status quo.
Qualcuno spera anche nell’aldilà, un giacimento utilizzato dalle religioni monoteiste come bromuro dell’anima e tranquillante sociale.
There are also those that have hope in the afterlife, a concept used by the mono-theist religions as a way of soothing the spirit and a way of maintaining social tranquility.

A furia di sperare l’Italia sta scomparendo, una foglia alla volta come un carciofo.
By doing too much hoping, Italy is disappearing, leaf by leaf, like an artichoke.
Qualcuno si ricorda che solo pochi anni fa eravamo la quinta o sesta potenza industriale?
Does anyone remember that only a few years ago we were the fifth or sixth most powerful industrial nation?
Una rivoluzione violenta non è auspicabile, nonostante le parole di Monicelli non siano del tutto sbagliate.
No one wants a violent revolution, in spite of what Monicelli said, he didn’t get it all wrong.
Farebbe oggi il gioco del Sistema che la reprimerebbe senza sforzo.
Anyone who would repress that without an effort, would be acting in favour of the System.
La rivoluzione va fatta con il voto ad ogni occasione utile per riconsegnare il Paese ai suoi cittadini;
The revolution is waged with the vote on every occasion when it can be used. This is how the country can be handed back to its citizens.
ma il tempo scorre e questa classe dirigente usa ogni attimo per difendere i suoi privilegi, per chiudere ogni pertugio alla democrazia.
But time flies and this set of people at the top are using every second, every minute – to defend their own privileges – and to close down every opening to democracy.
Forse non c’è più tempo o forse ne rimane ancora qualche scampolo.
There’s no time left or perhaps there’s just a tiny bit.
Dimenticatevi la parola speranza propria degli schiavi e usate la parola coraggio.
Forget the word “hope” that belongs to people who are slaves – and use the word “courage”.
La parola partecipazione.
The word “participation”.
Mettetevi in gioco o tacete per sempre.
Get involved or stay silent for ever.
