Joint Statement by Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, Mark Rutte, Holder of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission
Dichiarazione congiunta di Martin Schulz, Presidente del Parlamento europeo, Donald Tusk, Presidente del Consiglio europeo, Mark Rutte, presidente di turno del Consiglio dell’UE e Jean-Claude Juncker, Presidente della Commissione europea

President Schulz, President Tusk and Prime Minister Rutte met this morning in Brussels upon the invitation of European Commission President Juncker.
Il Presidente Schulz, il Presidente Tusk e il Primo ministro Rutte si sono incontrati questa mattina a Bruxelles su invito del presidente della Commissione Juncker;

They discussed the outcome of the United Kingdom referendum and made the following joint statement:
per discutere dell’esito del referendum tenutosi nel Regno Unito e hanno rilasciato la seguente dichiarazione congiunta:

“In a free and democratic process, the British people have expressed their wish to leave the European Union.
“Nell’ambito di un processo libero e democratico il popolo britannico ha espresso il desiderio di lasciare l’Unione europea.

We regret this decision but respect it.
Pur rammaricandoci di questa decisione, la rispettiamo.

This is an unprecedented situation but we are united in our response.
Si tratta di una situazione senza precedenti ma siamo uniti nel farvi fronte.

>>>   We will stand strong and uphold the EU’s core values of promoting peace and the well-being of its peoples.
E rimarremo fermi nella difesa dei valori fondamentali dell’UE – promuovere la pace e il benessere dei suoi cittadini.

The Union of 27 Member States will continue.
L’Unione di 27 Stati membri proseguirà il suo cammino.

The Union is the framework of our common political future.
L’Unione costituisce il quadro di riferimento del nostro comune futuro politico.

We are bound together by history, geography and common interests and will develop our cooperation on this basis.
Siamo uniti dalla storia, dalla geografia e da interessi comuni e su tale base svilupperemo la nostra cooperazione.

Together we will address our common challenges to generate growth, increase prosperity and ensure a safe and secure environment for our citizens.
Insieme affronteremo sfide comuni per favorire la crescita, incrementare la prosperità e garantire ai nostri cittadini un ambiente sicuro.

The institutions will play their full role in this endeavour.
Le istituzioni svolgeranno appieno il loro compito per conseguire tali obiettivi.

We now expect the United Kingdom government to give effect to this decision of the British people as soon as possible, however painful that process may be.
Ci aspettiamo ora che il governo del Regno Unito dia esecuzione quanto prima alla decisione del popolo britannico, per quanto doloroso possa essere tale processo.

Any delay would unnecessarily prolong uncertainty.
Ogni ritardo finirebbe infatti per prolungare inutilmente l’incertezza.

We have rules to deal with this in an orderly way.
L’Unione è dotata di regole per gestire questa situazione in modo ordinato.

Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union sets out the procedure to be followed if a Member State decides to leave the European Union.
L’articolo 50 del trattato sull’Unione europea stabilisce la procedura da seguire nel caso in cui uno Stato membro decida di lasciare l’Unione europea.

We stand ready to launch negotiations swiftly with the United Kingdom regarding the terms and conditions of its withdrawal from the European Union.
Siamo pronti ad avviare in tempi rapidi i negoziati con il Regno Unito per definire i termini e le condizioni della sua uscita dall’Unione europea.

Until this process of negotiations is over, the United Kingdom remains a member of the European Union, with all the rights and obligations that derive from this.
Ma fino alla conclusione di tali negoziati il Regno Unito rimarrà membro dell’Unione europea, con tutti i diritti e gli obblighi che ne derivano.

According to the Treaties which the United Kingdom has ratified, EU law continues to apply to the full to and in the United Kingdom until it is no longer a Member.
Conformemente ai trattati che il Regno Unito ha ratificato, il diritto dell’UE continuerà ad applicarsi integralmente al e nel Regno Unito fino a quando il paese cesserà di essere membro dell’UE.

As agreed, the “New Settlement for the United Kingdom within the European Union”, reached at the European Council on 18-19 February 2016, will now not take effect and ceases to exist.
Come era stato concordato, la “Nuova intesa per il Regno Unito nell’Unione europea”, raggiunta al Consiglio europeo del 18 e 19 febbraio 2016, non entrerà in vigore, cesserà di esistere;

There will be no renegotiation.
e non sarà rinegoziata.

As regards the United Kingdom, we hope to have it as a close partner of the European Union in the future.
Per il futuro speriamo che il Regno Unito possa rappresentare un partner stretto dell’Unione europea;

We expect the United Kingdom to formulate its proposals in this respect.
e ci aspettiamo che il paese formuli proposte concrete in tal senso.

Any agreement, which will be concluded with the United Kingdom as a third country, will have to reflect the interests of both sides and be balanced in terms of rights and obligations.”
Ogni accordo che sarà concluso con il Regno Unito in quanto paese terzo dovrà tenere conto degli interessi di entrambe le parti ed essere equilibrato in termini di diritti e obblighi.”
