The announcement earlier this month that a US-South Korean team have successfully modified disease causing DNA in embryos, has been widely heralded as a landmark in the long-promised genetic revolution for medicine.
Il fatto che all’inizio di questo mese un’equipe statunitense e sudcoreana era riuscita a modificare il DNA causa di malattie negli embrioni è stato annunciato come una pietra miliare nella rivoluzione genetica a lungo promessa della medicina.

However, alongside recognition of the achievement has come the familiar mix of utopian and dystopian voices.

It has been said that after the discovery of the double-helix structure of DNA and the mapping of the human genome, DNA editing technology constitutes the dawn of a new genetic era.

The disease, called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), affects one in 500 people and has been linked to the sudden death of otherwise healthy young people, including some high profile athletes.
