Social Card: profonda indignazione
Social Card: profound indignation

Here is a letter I received from a citizen regarding the matter of the Social Card (also read my article entitled: “The Social Card joke”).

The letter ends with some questions that tug at my heartstrings and fill me with intense anger and a sense of profound indignation.

How many more citizens will still be taken for a ride by these professional liars in Government?

What will it take for these people to wake up from this mental turpitude?

He can go and cast his vote for a better future and convince all his dear ones and friends to vote for change. The kind of change that can most certainly not be represented by the Pdl Party.

“Caro Antonio,
“Dear Antonio,

Last Thursday I accompanied my 75 and 78 year old parents, who live on an income of 450 and 480 Euro respectively, to the post office in Silvi Marina in Teramo Province, to collect their “Social Card” application forms from the local Welfare Body.

However, while seated before the Welfare Body’s accountant, they got a nasty surprise and realised the full extent of the joke being played.

According to the law that establishes the pre-requisites to qualify for this “social card”, my parents are not entitled to this “Social Card” because the house in which they live, which they do not own but simply make use of, has a “garage”.

It may seem laughable but it is indeed so that because the house has a garage, it is deemed to be a “luxury building” and is therefore considered to push up their income.

This is so, even though you are only a tenant and the property does not belong to you.

This was sufficient for them to lose any entitlement they may have had to a “Social Card”.

Assurdo!
How absurd!

Spero lei consideri il fatto sconcertante e voglia renderlo pubblico.
I trust that you too will find this situation disturbing and that you will reveal to the public precisely what is going on.

The Italian population really does not deserve to be taken for a ride at the very time when providing help and support should be considered a duty.

Earlier today my father was also told by the Welfare Body that there were many other pensioners whose applications were also rejected for the very same reason and who were on their way over to the applicable National Pension Fund offices to go and lodge a complaint.

In Italy 85% of the population are property owners, and 75% of these include a garage.

This Government was well aware of this fact long before they concocted this “SOCIAL CARD” joke.

E allora a chi pensava di darne i benefici?
So, to whom precisely were they intending to give these benefits?

Why then didn’t they explain the situation to the citizens beforehand instead of misleading and embarrassing them?

How can anyone be so mean towards people who are weak and elderly and are unable to defend themselves?
