Only after she’d got a little–well–feeble as you might say.

But how it took her was–she thought she’d lost something.

“Dear Prince,” said the Swallow, “I cannot do that”; and he began to weep.
“Caro Principe,” disse il Rondinotto, “questo non lo posso fare”; e cominciò a piangere.

“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” said the Prince, “do as I command you.”
“Rondinotto, Rondinotto, piccolo Rondinotto,”  disse il Principe, “fai come ti comando.”

So the Swallow plucked out the Prince’s eye, and flew away to the student’s garret.
Così il Rondinotto strappò l’occhio del Principe e volò alla soffitta dello studente.

It was easy enough to get in, as there was a hole in the roof.
Tutto sommato fu facile entrare, poiché c’era un buco nel tetto.

In he hopped, and laid the great ruby on the table beside the woman’s thimble.
Egli saltò dentro, e posò il grande rubino sul tavolo accanto al ditale della donna.

Then he flew gently round the bed, fanning the boy’s forehead with his wings.
Poi volò livemente intorno al letto, sventolando la fronte del bambino con le ali.

“How cool I feel,” said the boy, “I must be getting better”; and he sank into a delicious slumber.
“Come mi sento fresco,” disse il bambino, “devo star meglio”; e sprofondò in un piacevole sonno.

Then the Swallow flew back to the Happy Prince, and told him what he had done.
Poi il Rondinotto volò di nuovo dal Principe Felice, e gli disse cosa aveva fatto.
