Se non ci fossimo preparati per tempo, dalla scorsa estate, saremmo già fuori dal Parlamento.

Sono Alessandro Di Battista, ho scritto “Sicari a cinque euro”, cinque euro… 50 quetzales in Guatemala ho scoperto essere il prezzo più basso per ingaggiare un sicario, anche se spesso dei bambini, soprattutto nei tre Paesi del triangolo nord del Centro America: Guatemala, Honduras e Salvador.
I am Alessandro Di Battista and I wrote the book entitled “Sicari a cinque euro” (Literally “Killers for hire at five Euro”), yes five Euro … or 50 quetzales, which as I discovered in Guatemala, is the cheapest going rate for hiring a killer, even though they are often mere children, above all in the three Countries that make up the northern triangle of South America, namely Guatemala, Honduras and Salvador.

Per entrare in queste bande sono disposti a uccidere gratuitamente o per un piatto di pasta.
In order to get into these gangs, these killers are even prepared to kill for nothing or merely for a plate of pasta.

Lo fanno sì perché hanno fame, sicuramente la povertà è una molla che li spinge a premere il grilletto, ma non è l’unica, secondo me è fuorviante ragionare solamente in base alla povertà.
Yes, they are undoubtedly prepared to this because they are hungry since poverty is what drives them to press the trigger, but that is not the only reason they do it and in my opinion it is misleading to place all of the blame on poverty alone.

Un anno e mezzo fa mi trovavo in un quartiere di Panama City che si chiama Chorrillo e sono arrivato quasi per caso a conoscere un gruppo di ex assassini che poi erano riusciti a cambiare vita e mi hanno raccontato le loro storie, i loro anni passati in alcune bande criminali, che si chiamano a Panama: Maras, Pandillas.
A year and a half ago I found myself in Chorrillo, one of the quarters of Panama City, and purely coincidentally I got to meet a group of former hired-killers who had managed to turn their lives around and they told me the stories of the years they spent as members of various criminal gangs, called Maras or Pandillas in Guatemala.

Fate attenzione ai tempi.
Have a look at the time frames.

Giovedì 6 dicembre il M5S, dopo le votazioni on line, riesce a predisporre le liste per il Parlamento in tutta Italia e può iniziare il processo di raccolta delle firme nelle diverse circoscrizioni.
On Thursday 6 December after the online voting, the M5S manages to draw up lists of parliamentary candidates throughout Italy and it can start the process of collecting signatures in the various constituencies.

Nella stessa settimana la Commissione Affari Costituzionali alza bandiera bianca per modificare la legge elettorale attuale e ridurre il peso del M5S, o addirittura eliminarlo con regole ad hoc (come l’esistenza obbligatoria di uno Statuto a immagine e somiglianza di quello dei partiti).
In the same week, the Commission for Constitutional Affairs raises the white flag on changing the current electoral law and reduces the impact of the M5S, or directly eliminates it with ad hoc rules (like the obligation for the existence of a Statute that looks like a mirror image of those of the parties).

Esiste ancora un modo però per bloccare il M5S: il tempo.
However there’s still a way of blocking the M5S: time.

Va quindi in onda la manfrina del pdl contro la politica del governo appoggiata a 90 gradi per più di un anno, dall’IMU, all’aumento dell’IVA, all’aumento delle tasse.
Thus what’s given out is the same old story about the PDL being against the government’s policy though it’s been giving the government its full support for more than a year, about the local property tax, the increase in sales tax and the increase in all taxes.

La polvere ha ormai formato cumuli e il tappeto è deformato, con gobbe, strane linee e ondulazioni.

Si cammina con circospezione per non inciampare.
People have to walk carefully so as not to get tripped up.

Ogni giorno nuova polvere, spesso tossica, aumenta lo spessore degli avvallamenti e delle improvvise discese, là dove il piede dovrebbe posarsi senza rischio alcuno.
Every day, there’s new dust, often toxic dust, the depth of the valleys and the sudden descents increases, just where you should be able to put your foot down without risking anything.

Il tappeto è rigonfio di problemi irrisolti, di tragedie lasciate a marcire, di fallimenti, di ruberie, di Alcoa, di Ilva, di Fiat, di Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

L’euro è il dito, ma la UE è la luna, la sua parte nascosta, di cui si sa poco o nulla.
The euro is the finger, but the EU is the moon, its hidden part, of which we know little or nothing.

L’italiano è più a conoscenza dei dibattiti del Senato americano che delle decisioni prese a Bruxelles.
An Italian knows more about the debates in the American Senate than the decisions taken in Brussels.

Forse perché non c’è molto da dire di un luogo che assomiglia a un club Med, a un dolce esilio dei trombati alle elezioni nazionali come Mastella.
Perhaps because there’s not much to be said about a place that seems more like a Club Med resort a gentle place of exile for those like Mastella, who failed in national elections.

L’annullamento della politica europea, sostituita nei fatti da un’unione bancaria europea, non è quello che volevano i padri fondatori Adenauer, De Gasperi, Monnet e Schuman.

E’ alto tradimento nei confronti degli elettori usati come un trampolino di lancio.
It’s an act of high treason in relation to the voters who are used as a springboard.

It’s a matter of being a political climber.

La legge dovrebbe proibirlo o, in mancanza di una legge, almeno l’etica personale.

Il dato politico fondamentale è uno solo, quello che alcuni temevano, altri si aspettavano, altri ancora snobbavano:

Il debito pubblico italiano sfiora i 2.000 miliardi. Marcia al ritmo di 100 miliardi in più all’anno.
The Italian public debt is close to 2,000 billion. It’s galloping along at a rate of an extra 100 billion each year.

Il 94% del debito è dello Stato, il 6% degli Enti locali.
94% of the debt is what the State owes, whereas 6% is owed by local authorities.

La leggenda che il debito sia dovuto all’aver vissuto sopra le nostre possibilità è falsa.
The story that the debt is due to us living above our means, is false.

Il debito pubblico non è cresciuto in questi anni per le troppe spese.
The public debt has not been growing in recent years because of too much expenditure.

Nel solo 2011 lo Stato ha avuto un avanzo primario di 16 miliardi, ma gli interessi, pari a 78 miliardi (nel 2012 saranno almeno 90 miliardi), hanno causato un deficit di 62 miliardi.
Just in 2011 alone, the State had a primary surplus of 16 billion, but the interest payments, amounting to 72 billion (in 2012 they’ll be more than 90 billion), have caused a deficit of 62 billion.

E’ una macchina infernale.
It’s an infernal mechanism.

Le piccole e medie imprese sono vicine al collasso. E’ una questione di mesi.
Small and medium sized companies are close to collapse. It’s a matter of months.

Il tessuto produttivo del Paese si sta sfaldando.
The country’s production ecosystem is disintegrating.

Le banche, impegnate a comprare titoli di Stato sul mercato internazionale e di nuova emissione, non concedono più crediti alle aziende.
The banks, busy buying up State bonds on the international market and those recently issued, are no longer supplying credit to companies.

I prestiti sono in continua contrazione.
Loans are in continual decline.
