I’ve landed in Sicily

Questo è il terzo sbarco in Sicilia in 150 anni.
This is the third landing in Sicily in 150 years.

Il primo fu Garibaldi che portò i Savoia, il secondo fu fatto dagli americani che portarono la mafia, il terzo sono io con il MoVimento 5 Stelle, ma né Garibaldi o Nino Bixio o Lucky Luciano sono arrivati in Sicilia a nuoto.
Garibaldi was the first to land and he brought the Savoys, in the second landing came the Americans and they brought the mafia, the third to land is me with the MoVimento 5 Stelle, but none of them – Garibaldi, Nino Bixio, or Lucky Luciano swam to Sicily.

La Grecia fallisce per il suo debito, la Sicilia fallisce per il suo credito verso lo Stato italiano che gli presta come elemosina solo una parte di ciò che gli deve, ma non pareggia mai il conto.
Greece is going bust because of its debt, Sicily is going bust because of its credit with the Italian State that loans it just a part of what it owes it, as though giving alms, but it never settles the account.

Hundreds of cyber security experts from across the EU are testing their readiness to combat cyber-attacks in a day-long simulation across Europe today.

In Cyber Europe 2012, 400 experts from major financial institutions, telecoms companies, internet service providers and local and national governments across Europe are facing more than 1200 separate cyber incidents (including more than 30 000 emails) during a simulated distributed denial of service (DDoS) campaign.
All’esercizio Cibereuropa 2012 partecipano 400 esperti provenienti dalle principali istituzioni finanziarie, imprese di telecomunicazioni, fornitori di servizi internet nonché amministrazioni nazionali e locali di tutt’Europa; essi si confronteranno con oltre 1 200 incidenti informatici distinti (inclusi oltre 30 000 messaggi di posta elettronica) durante la simulazione di un attacco distribuito di negazione del servizio (distributed denial of service o DDoS.

The exercise is testing how they would respond and co-operate in the event of sustained attacks against the public websites and computer systems of major European banks.
L’esercizio vuole testare in che modo essi risponderanno e collaboreranno fra loro in caso di attacco contro i siti web pubblici ed i sistemi informatici delle maggiori banche europee.

If real, such an attack would cause massive disruption for millions of citizens and businesses across Europe, and millions of euros of damage to the EU economy.
Se dovesse accadere nella realtà, un simile attacco avrebbe gravissime ripercussioni su milioni di cittadini e di imprese in tutt’Europa, arrecando danni all’economia dell’UE per milioni di euro.

Neppure Ercole riuscirebbe a ripulire dallo sterco la moderna stalla di Augia che è diventata l’Italia.
Not even Hercules would manage to clean out the dung from the modern version of the Augean stables that Italy has become.

Per molto meno in altri Paesi la gente sarebbe scesa in piazza, avrebbe assediato il Parlamento.
In other countries, people would have come out into the streets or would have laid siege to Parliament for stuff less important than this.

In Italia non succede.
In Italy that’s not happening.

Ci si interroga su questo mistero, su questa apparente ignavia, da anni, senza trovare una risposta convincente.

Chi grida “Forza Grillo!”, come una volta si gridava “Viva Zapata o Pancho Villa” non ha capito che è lui e solo lui l’artefice di un possibile cambiamento.
Anyone who is shouting out “Forza Grillo!“ {come on Grillo!}, just as once upon a time people shouted out “Long live Zapata or Pancho Villa” has not understood that it is only he himself that is the one to bring about a possible change.

Non deve votare per il MoVimento 5 Stelle, ma per sé stesso e se non rischierà nulla, se farà il guardone della politica nell’attesa di un nuovo vincitore, l’Italia rimarrà il Paese pietrificato degli ultimi 150 anni.
Those people mustn’t vote for the 5 Star MoVement, but for themselves and if they risk nothing, if they are just playing the one who is lurking in the land of politics while hanging around waiting for the winner to emerge, Italy will still be the country that has been turned to stone over the last 150 years.

E lui, come cittadino, non conterà mai uno, ma zero, il numero che contraddistingue chi resta alla finestra, chi non si impegna per la società in cui vive.
And as citizens, those people will never have the value of one, but zero. Zero is the number identifying those who stay at the window looking out, those who do not make a commitment to the society that they live in.

In Italia, come disse Ennio Flaiano, si accorre sempre in soccorso del vincitore, qui milioni di fascisti divennero democristiani e comunisti nel giro di una notte di aprile, nel 1945 a guerra perduta.
As Ennio Flaiano said, people in Italy are always keen to run to the aid of the victor. Thus here, millions of fascists became Christian Democrats and Communists in the course of a single night in April 1945, once the war had been lost.

gli indipendenti (pochi, eroici e spesso emarginati), gli schiavi (tantissimi, sfruttati e pagati 5/10/20 euro a pezzo) e i Grandi Trombettieri del Sistema, nominati in posizioni di comando dai partiti e dalle lobby (direttori di testata, caporedattori, grandi firme, intellettuali per meriti sul campo).

Last Saturday in Parma, technical people and experts spent hours discussing incinerators, how they are harmful to health, how they are absolutely useless, talking about zero refuse, about Iren’s three billion euros of debt, Iren, the company that is quoted on the Stock Exchange, and that sees a majority shareholding in the hands of the municipalities led by the PDminusL.

None of this has got through to the news.

La piazza vuota, semi vuota, quasi piena è stato l’unico argomento di interesse (in piazza della Pace erano presenti 3.000 persone e decine di migliaia erano collegate in streaming).
Whether the square was empty, half empty or almost full was the only interesting topic (in the piazza della Pace there were 3,000 people present and tens of thousands were connected in live streaming).

Dear Martin Schulz,

nella sua recente visita nel nostro Paese ha fatto delle affermazioni su di me e sul MoVimento 5 Stelle che dette da lei, nella sua qualità di presidente del Parlamento europeo, sono molto gravi.
In your recent visit to our country you made certain statements about myself and the MoVimento 5 Stelle {5 Star MoVement} and because they have come from yourself in your role as President of the European Parliament, these are particularly serious.

Le riporto integralmente:
I’m giving the whole of the text:

“Quando i politici vanno a vedere una commedia penso sia meno pericoloso di quando i comici diventano politici.
“When the politicians go to see a comedy I think it is less dangerous than when comedians become politicians.

Grillo è un classico fenomeno di protesta che non mi pare né molto democratico, né molto trasparente.
Grillo is a classic protest phenomenon and he seems to be not very democratic, and not very transparent.

Non ha uno statuto per il suo movimento.
He has no statute for his Movement.

Non si sa come lavora.
It’s not known how he functions.

Lo fa anonimamente e su internet.
He operates anonymously and on the Internet.

Non è disposto a discutere e non rappresenta una cultura democratica tradizionale.
He is not willing to have discussions and he does not represent a traditional democratic culture.

Dire sempre no a tutto senza dire a favore di cosa si è non è un’opzione.
To always say “no” to everything without ever being in favour of things is not an option.

E dire usciamo dall’euro e torniamo alla lira io penso che sia pura ciarlataneria”.
And to say “let’s leave the euro and go back to the lira” is in my opinion pure charlatanism.”.

Mi sto allenando ogni giorno a Nervi.
I’m training every day at Nervi.

Di tanto in tanto incontro un nuotatore e gli chiedo “Si va di qua per La Spezia?”.
Every so often I bump into a swimmer and I ask “Is this the way for La Spezia?”.

Pochi hanno il senso dell’umorismo, alcuni mi danno anche delle indicazioni “Si, ma è lontana” oppure “No, di qua si va per San Remo” e mi guardano mentre mi allontano con delle poderose bracciate.
Not many have a sense of humour, a few give me directions “Yes – but it’s a long way” or “No, that’s going towards San Remo“ and they look at me while I swim away with powerful strokes.

IREN and Fassino, in debt in Turin

Il comune di Torino è indebitato, molto indebitato.
The city of Turin is in debt, heavily in debt.

Il più indebitato d’Italia.
Of all the towns and cities in Italy, it’s the one that is the most in debt.

Nel 2012 i torinesi pagheranno 137 milioni di tasse in più per l’aumento dell’addizionale Irpef e per l’IMU.
In 2012 the people of Turin will pay an extra 137 million in taxes because of the increase in income tax and the local IMU tax.

Torino ha tra i propri creditori persino sé stesso.
Among its own creditors, Turin even has itself.

Insieme al comune di Genova possiede infatti il 35,9% della holding finanziaria FSU (Finanziaria Sviluppo Utilities), principale azionista di IREN, la multiutility indebitata per circa tre miliardi di euro.
Together with the municipality of Genoa it owns 35.9% of the financial holding company holding called FSU (Finanziaria Sviluppo Utilities), that is the main shareholder of IREN, the multi-utility company that is in debt by about three billion euro.

IREN vanta un credito di 260 milioni di euro nei confronti del comune da saldare per una quota di 100 milioni entro fine anno.
IREN is owed 260 million euro by the municipality and 100 million of this has to be paid off by the end of the year.

Il 22 settembre ci sarà un incontro pubblico a Parma a cui parteciperò.
On 22 September there’s a public meeting in Parma and I’m going to be present.

Avrà inizio alle 14 e terminerà alle 18 in piazza della Pace.
It’s in piazza della Pace and it’ll start at 2:00 pm and finish at 6:00 pm.

Il tema di cui si tratterà è “Dies Iren – La fine degli inceneritori”.
The topic to be discussed is “Dies Iren -the end of the incinerators”.

Non c’è una sola buona ragione per costruirli: danneggiano la salute, l’ambiente, fanno aumentare i costi dello smaltimento dei rifiuti scaricati poi sulla collettività.
There is not one single reason to build them: they damage health and the environment, they increase the costs of disposing of waste and the costs are then offloaded onto the people.

All’incontro parteciperanno medici, economisti, ambientalisti e specialisti della gestione dei rifiuti.
Present at the meeting there’ll be doctors, economists, environmentalists and people who have specialised in waste management.

A Parma è intervenuta la Procura che ha chiesto il sequestro dell’inceneritore di Uguzzolo.
It was Parma that saw the intervention of the Prosecutors to ask for the sequestration of Uguzzolo.

In Europa è scattata la sirena dell’ “Ognuno per sé e l’euro per tutti”.
In Europe the siren has been triggered and it’s saying “Each for himself and the euro for everyone”.

Le continue manovre, incontri istituzionali, vertici europei, nuove elezioni e rimozioni di primi ministri che si sono susseguiti in questi anni hanno avuto un primario, e non dichiarato obiettivo: diminuire il rischio di Francia e Germania verso i Paesi indebitati.
The continual manoeuvres, institutional meetings, European summits, new elections and removal of prime ministers that have been happening in recent years, have had a primary, and undeclared aim: to reduce the risk of France and Germany in relation to the countries that are in debt.

Quindi verso Grecia, Spagna, Italia, Portogallo e Irlanda: i PiGS.
Thus in relation to Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Ireland: the PIGS.

In caso di default dell’Italia e della Spagna l’intero sistema economico europeo potrebbe infatti collassare.
If it should happen that Italy or Spain were to default then the whole European economic system could in fact collapse.

Persino la piccola Grecia, con un Pil del 3% rispetto a quello dell’intera UE, ha messo in pericolo la stabilità delle banche francesi.
Even tiny Greece, with a GDP that is 3% of that of the whole of the EU, has put the stability of French banks at risk.

Banche e investitori esteri hanno venduto a piene mani i titoli dei maiali che sono stati comprati dalle banche dei maiali grazie al prestito di mille miliardi di euro erogato alle banche dalla BCE.
Banks and foreign investors have sold off at any price the bonds of the PIGS and these have been bought by the banks of the PIGS thanks to a loan from the ECB to the banks to the value of a thousand billion euro.

Boosting clinical research in Europe by simplifying the rules for conducting clinical trials is what today’s proposal from the Commission is about.
Incoraggiare la ricerca clinica in Europa semplificando le regole per la sperimentazione clinica è al centro della proposta odierna formulata dalla Commissione.

Clinical trials are tests of medicines in humans and give patients access to most innovative treatments.
Le sperimentazioni cliniche sono prove dei medicinali sugli umani e consentono ai pazienti di accedere alle terapie più innovative.

At the same time, clinical research with over 20 billion Euros of investment per year in the EU makes a significant contribution to the growth policy of the Europe 2020 agenda.
Nel contempo, la ricerca clinica, con più di 20 miliardi di euro di investimenti all’anno nell’UE, reca un importante contributo alla politica di crescita sancita dall’agenda Europa 2020.

Clinical trials are vital to develop medicines and to improve and compare the use of already authorised medicines.
Le sperimentazioni sono essenziale per sviluppare medicinali e migliorare e comparare l’uso dei medicinali già autorizzati.

The data generated in clinical trials are used by researchers in publications, and by pharmaceutical companies applying for marketing authorisations.
I dati generati dalla sperimentazione clinica sono usati dai ricercatori per le loro pubblicazioni e dalle società farmaceutiche che chiedono le autorizzazioni all’immissione in commercio.

Once implemented, the measures proposed today will speed up and simplify the authorisation and reporting procedures, while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and robustness and reliability of data.
Una volta implementate, le misure proposte oggi accelereranno e semplificheranno le procedure di autorizzazione e di rendicontazione, mantenendo nello stesso tempo i più elevati standard di sicurezza per i pazienti e di solidità e affidabilità dei dati.

2013: the year of miracles

Il 2013 è un anno che vale la pena di essere vissuto. Ci aspettano dolori, ma anche gioie. Dodici mesi vissuti pericolosamente, in cui tutto può succedere, compresi i miracoli. Un anno mezzo pieno per gli ottimisti.
The year 2013 is one that is going to be worth living. There’ll be suffering – but also delights. Twelve months lived dangerously. Twelve months when anything can happen including miracles. A year that for the optimists will be half full.

Monti is back at the starting point

Rigor Montis è diventato presidente del Consiglio l’undici novembre del 2011, ufficialmente per salvare l’Italia dal fallimento.
On 11 November 2011, Rigor Montis became President of the Council, officially to save Italy from collapse.

Da allora il debito pubblico è passato da 1.905 miliardi a 1.948 miliardi (dato di aprile), la disoccupazione giovanile ha raggiunto il record di 34,2%, il PIL calerà nell’anno del 2,4% (ma le previsioni più realistiche sono di meno 3%), la richiesta di mutui per la casa è dimezzata, meno 47%.
Since then the public debt has gone from 1,905 billion to 1,948 billion (figures for April 2012), youth unemployment has reached a record high of 34.2%, the GDP will be down this year by 2.4% (but more realistic predictions say it’ll be down by 3%), requests for home mortgages have halved, down by 47%.

Per questo ha introdotto l’IMU, alzato le tasse, tagliato la Sanità, la Giustizia, persino gli uffici postali di circa un migliaio, cancellato l’articolo 18.

I partiti che hanno portato il Paese in bancarotta vengono lentamente sostituiti nel pensiero collettivo da un curatore fallimentare.
The parties that have brought the country to bankruptcy are slowly being substituted in the thinking of the people with a bankruptcy receiver.

Rigor Montis, lui solo, è diventato il responsabile dell’impoverimento della nazione, della chiusura di ospedali e tribunali di giustizia, di una tassazione folle, degli imprenditori suicidi, dell’IMU, del fallimento delle piccole e media imprese, dell’inflazione che divora i redditi, degli esodati, della disoccupazione, dell’emigrazione delle nuove generazioni ridotte come i loro bisnonni a cercare lavoro in ogni landa della Terra.
Rigor Montis, he alone, has become the one responsible for the impoverishment of the nation, for the closing down of hospitals and courts of justice, for mad taxation, for suiciding entrepreneurs, for the IMU tax, for the collapse of small and medium sized enterprises, for inflation that devours incomes, for the “esodati” {incomeless people below pension age} for unemployment, for the emigration of the new generations who are reduced, (like their great grandparents) to looking for work in every corner of the world.
