Il primo maggio è diventato la festa degli automobilisti.

Se le città fossero liberate dal traffico privato, si arriverebbe prima ovunque e questo vale soprattutto per chi usa l’auto.
If cities were freed from private transport, we would get everywhere faster and this is true even for those who use cars.

Se i mezzi pubblici fossero elettrici o a idrogeno si respirerebbe meglio.
If public transport vehicles were electric or hydrogen-powered we would breathe better.

Se i trasporti ferroviari per i pendolari avessero un decimo dei finanziamenti della (inutile) alta velocità, milioni di italiani arriverebbero al lavoro o a scuola in orario senza doversi poi fare la doccia.
If train transport for commuters had a tenth of the financing for the (useless) high speed line, then millions of Italians would get to work or to school on time without then having to take a shower.

Se le città avessero come priorità le piste ciclabili al posto dei parcheggi si potrebbero portare a scuola i nostri figli pedalando, invece di parcheggiare il SUV in doppia fila.
If the city had as a priority the cycle tracks instead of the car parks we could take our children to school by pedalling instead of double-parking the 4×4.

In cambio di una bicicletta, di un tram, di una linea ferroviaria per pendolari Milano-Voghera che arriva in orario e senza carri bestiame per i passeggeri.
In exchange for a new bicycle, a tram, a train line for Milano-Voghera commuters that arrives on time and without cattle trucks for passengers.

C’è da spostare una macchina!

Lo perdono al Nord, dove c’è, è elementare, i disoccupati del Sud non possono perdere quello che non hanno.

L’esposizione universale, o EXPO, viene da lontano. Dall’Ottocento.
The idea of the world exhibition or EXPO, comes from far away. From the 19th century.

Da un’età in cui per spostarsi da Londra a San Francisco ci volevano mesi.
From a time when it took months to journey from London to San Francisco.

E’ nata per permettere alle persone di vedere cose mai viste. Tecnologia, futuro, costruzioni fuori dalla realtà quotidiana.
It came into being so as to allow people to see things never seen before. Technology, future, constructions beyond the reality of every day.

Il mondo, allora, non era a portata di click. Per i trasporti delle merci si usavano i bastimenti, oggi basta il mouse.
At that time, the world was not within the reach of a click. To transport the merchandise they used ships, today it’s enough to have a mouse.

L’Italia ha avuto la sfortuna di vincere l’EXPO 2015 con Milano.
Italy has had the misfortune to win EXPO 2015 in Milan.

There are cuts to the funding for universities and they are gifting money to people like Mieli, Mauro, Ferrara, Polito, and Feltri.

La lista è lunghissima, ma quanti sono i mantenuti foraggiati dalle nostre tasse.
The list is really long, but how many are there who are fed and watered from our taxes?

La libertà di esprimere l’opinione dei loro editori è possibile grazie ai contributi dell’operaio o della pensionata.
The liberty to express the opinion of their editors is possible thanks to the taxes of the labourers and the pensioners.

Dopo una lettura attenta dei miei articoli sulla disoccupazione di massa prossima ventura (due milioni di nuovi disoccupati) ha detto :

“Dalla ricognizione fatta posso dire che sta arrivando una valanga, servono grandi interventi”.
“After careful investigation I can say that an avalanche is on its way here. What we need are some major interventions”.

Li sentite gli zoccoli dei bisonti? Stanno calpestando la prateria del Nord Italia. Da Ovest a Est.
Do you hear the sound of bison hooves approaching? They are trampling the prairies of Northern Italy. From West to East.

Da qualche anno è un fiorire di raccomandate.
In the last few years, there has been a flurry of registered mail.

Una volta si correva in posta per ritirarle.
Once upon a time you ran to the Post Office to pick it up.

Erano una preoccupazione. Adesso non ci si fa più caso. Sono solo una rottura di balle.
It was a worry. Now you hardly notice them. They are simply just annoyances.

La svolta è avvenuta con il passaggio dei servizi pubblici ai privati e dei pagamenti alle società di riscossione.
The turning point came with the transfer of public services to commercial companies and payments to agencies charged with the task of receiving payments.

TFR addio
Goodbye TFR (Severance Indemnity Funds)

Chi ha tenuto il suo TFR in azienda ha avuto un rendimento del 3,5%.
Those employees that left their severance indemnity funds with the company, have seen them grow by 3,5%.

Chi, seguendo il consiglio dei sindacati, dei partiti e dei promotori finanziari, lo ha investito nei fondi pensione ha perso circa il 20%.
Instead, those who listened to, and took the advice of the trades union, the political parties and the financial brokers and proceeded to invest their severance indemnity in pension funds, have incurred a loss of about 20%.

Ed è solo l’inizio. Con la Borsa in picchiata, per i futuri pensionati la liquidazione servirà per il cappuccino e il becchime per i piccioni.
And this is merely the beginning. With the Stock Exchange heading downhill fast, these future pensioners will find that their severance indemnity will buy them little more than their morning cappuccino coffee and seed for the pigeons.
